Hello,

SAT: CR: 650/ M: 620 / W: 580 (10 essay)
GPA: 3.5 (W) 3.2 (UW) - Extenuating circumstances noted in application as to why its low
First Semester senior year : 4.0 (UW)

What do you think, guys?

No...just my opinion

based on grades/scores: reach

It depends how dire the circumstances explaining your GPA were, but your SAT is still low too...

USC: Reach

It's a pretty extreme reach; even if you had a higher GPA the test scores are low for USC. :(

high match. usc isnt that hard to get into, lol.

i don't think it's that unlikely. it sounds like you've demonstrated a lot of grade improvement (4.0 first semester, good work) and USC seems to base a lot of the decision on essay/overall impression, so if your essays etc were good, a low-ish score could be overlooked.

besides, if the mean score is 2100, that means 50% have to have lower scores than that... about 4,000 acceptees. and the middle 50% for 06-07 was 1920-2180, so that means that about 2,000 acceptance letters went out to people who scored less than 1920 composite.

Then I guess you think 3.8 UW/2070ish average stats is easy. http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/docs/admission/Freshman_Profile_2006.pdf

Yes but a lot of these people are athletes/developmental cases or otherwise hooked.

I hope I'm one of them.. :p

Seveticus, there's a few questions I'd like to ask before i chance you..

1) How many AP's/Honors classes have you taken?
2) What were the circumstances that prevented you from your academics?
3) Are there any other major awards/jobs/curricular activities you haven't listed?

How important is your HS GPA for transfering? My high school GPA is lower(about 3.5) but my act is a 30. Will high college grades and ec activities help my chances?

A friendly note: it would be great if you started your own thread next time so as not to derail this thread.

Answering your question - it's sort of a sliding scale. If you are transferring after freshman year the grades will hold some weight but if you are transferring after sophomore year they will be less meaningful. There's no formula.

haha. a friend of mine who got a 1300 (out of 2400) sat score got into usc. admittedly, he lives in hong kong so that might be a hook, but still, pls dont make usc seem hard to get into.

Being from HK is a potential hook? How so? Then again I guess you could call it a "feeder location". ;)

If you live in Hong Kong and you can manage a 1300 /2400 SAT score, that's not bad at all...

imagine if the SAT's were all in spanish.. I'd be lucky if I can manage a 900 total.

Karan, you can't use that one example and say USC is easy to get into. You can't compare that to kids who grew up in America. We're not expected to get 1300's / 2400 on SAT's.

Again, seveticus, it'd be great if you can answer my questions before I chance you.

Rather than taking the stats of one person, why don't we take a look at the average stats of many thousands of people? Which do you think is more reliable? Hm?

firstly, i live in hong kong as well and i got 2150. and my friend who got 1300 is white, english is his first language. also, another friend got 1750 and got in.

usc is a decent school but the fact of the matter is it attracts mainly average students, and 1850 is an above average sat score.

When the people from USC came to our school for a talk, they said for internationals SATs were optional and that they mainly looked at our grades...did anyone get that same info?

i got that info as well. the thing is, my friend with the 1300 sat got c's and d's lol.

fella, are you blind or just really really ignorant? READ the link I provided earlier in this thread and report here the SAT range.

Until then, stop polluting this thread with false information.
