chances?

STATS:
Very competive public high school in upstate New York
SAT I: CR: 500 Math: 500 Writing: 490
Rank: 194/444 (UNWEIGHTED) it seems really low to me… I guess my class has a lot of smart people.
GPA: 3.4

Courseload:
3 Syracuse University college classes this year… economics, english, and chemistry.
No aps…theyre not for me because i dont do well on tests.
several other honors classes throughout high school.

EC’s
Musical 3/4 years (4 months of the school year, HUGE commitment)
Ski Club
Newspaper 10-12 grade… managing editor (this year)
Select choir

Awards;
several yearly achievement awards in various classes.

AMAZING recomendations from teachers and guidance… my guidance counselor included in her letter how im not a test taker and the SATs dont say anything about me.

if your gpa was high to make up for your low SATs, i think it would make a difference, but in your case your rank is just barely in the top half of the class... i would say between slight reach and reach

^thats slight reach?^

What's slight reach?

I guess i'm just bitter becuase i hate the SATs so much. I spent thousands of dollars on a private SAT tutor and while it did help, it didnt give me the boost i was hoping for at all. I worked my butt off doing pratice tests for 6 months with this great tutor. It just sucks because people like myself have more to show than f-ing test scores! It's truly enraging.

It means you might get in (in other words, less then 50%).

I know I am not a fan of the SAT either and I paid lots of $ like you. I am not sure, but from what I have seen, it might be tough for you to get into. I mean I have a 1260 SAT and I am ranked 3rd in my class and I have been told that I am not for sure going to get in. I guess it depends on what school within the university you are applying to... have you considered the CGS, I am not familiar with it. Keep up the hope and good luck!!!

Your stats look kinda low. You may be offered college of general studies, however stats look low for that too.

my friend got in ED last year with a 1200 SAT (i know its higher than mine) and an 87 GPA to COMM. Anything can happen i guess. No one really knows.. its a crap shoot.

stats aside because you've submitted the app already and you can't do anything about it (yes this is hard to come to grips with)
are you sure you want to go to BU? It might be a struggle if/once you get in...eh depends...what do you plan on majoring in?

Kiwieux, i understand! BU is not by any means my 1st choice anyway. I just hope i get into NEU. BU is a reach for me considering it's the hardest school I applied to. Im going to major in communications.

if you applied to COM, then sorry, i dont think you will get in

my friend last year as i said had a lower GPA... a bit higher SAT scores (1200 and equal the amount of EC's...(i might have more) and he got in early decission. I just really don't know

well, like you said it might just be a crap shoot and all i can tell you is to wait patiently...but wherever you go you'll need to learn fast on how to be a good test taker
your grades all basically ride on the few tests you'll have throughout the year

Anyone want to chance me for CGS?

White male, New York City

Self:
Staylazy (<a href="http://www.staylazy.net%5B/url%5D">http://www.staylazy.net</a>)
Staylazy, being named so for the sake of irony as there is nothing lazy about the effort, is a company I created a few years ago to release software under. My projects have been aimed towards the development of software that compliments Apple’s iPod (as I explained in my application essay)

Canto Pod is my most critically acclaimed project and the one that has been featured in the largest amount of media reports and received the most downloads. It connects with the internet automatically when a user loads the software, and downloads song lyrics onto his or her iPod. Canto Pod has over 25,000 downloads and has been rated as the 3rd most needed iPod software by Cnet.com

Weather for Me is a program that downloads the weather forecast to a users iPod. It has been featured in the New York Times and countless websites.

bump bump?

zevesal- you may want to try and retake the SATs or maybe try the ACTs...your in the middle 50% if you don't want to though.

just to give you an idea (Class of 2010):
Averages
(CR/MT) (WR) ACT
Boston University College of General Studies 1179 597 25

Middle 50%
(CR/MT) (WR) ACT
Boston University College of General Studies 1120-1230 560-630 24-27

Hi Lauren,

Its to late for me to retake anything though. I should be hearing by the end of the month.

What do you think my chances are, considering my grades, EC's, and my sister being a current student?

Why bother asking if you guys are so sure/self-confident about admissions?

I think you have a 50/50 chance. The process is sometimes seems completely random. It seems like you really want to go to BU and your a legacy so they'll probably see that and take it into consideration.
