Chances:

My daughter goes to a very competitive NYC Specialized HS and is a Jr.
Her GPA (unweighted) is 3.8, most classes are either AP or Honors
1410 on the old SAT...630V 780M
700 On Math I SAT II, with French and Math II to be taken
Will probably raise her SAT score on the new one, since she is a good writer and her weakest part was the analogies which are being eliminated.
NHS member, most likely an officer next year (you have to be Sr to hold NHS office in her school)
4 Year Varisty softball player, captain Jr & Sr year (but not good enough to play in college), and Travel softball player
Contributing writer on school satire magazine.
Volunteer work in the community: Tibetan museum tour guide, Shoveling for seniors( shovels snow for a senior citizen), Tutoring
Her only job has been babysitting, but she iwll be working this summer.

She wants to study either journalism or poly sci, possibly a double major or a major in one and a minor in the other.

Her choices right now are (no particular order):
Syracuse
NYU
Columbia
Princeton
American U
Marist
SUNY Geneseo
Penn State
Southern Ct State

Anyone want to comment on her chances at these schools?

Syracuse-dono it
NYU-possible match if she gets her sat 1 scores up but a 1410 is still pretty good
Columbia-reach because she doesnt really have a hook
Princeton-same as columbia
American U-i donno it
Marist
SUNY Geneseo-saffttyyy
Penn State-matchout of state, safty in state
Southern Ct State
i think the problem is that she doesnt have a hook and her ecs are a little common , nothing stands out to much in them well maybe if she has really good essays... also id suggest editor of school newspaper as it would look good when majoring in journalism or doing some poli sci related stuff over the summer
