I am catholic if that matters and looking to apply to LMU in the fall.

Cumulative GPA is about 3.494 unweighted and 3.544 weighted. Freshmen GPA was 3.29 and 3.49 at difficult Christian private school. Sophomore year was 3.86 for the year with A's in both honors classes. This year I am having trouble in Math and Chem. 3.00 unweighted 1st semester and 3.25 weighted.

1st SAT's were CR: 530, M:500 W:660! I was devastated and hope to do much better my new 2 times and do good on ACT's. So is it impossible for me to get into LMU? Have lots of EC's at school and participate at church. Being confirmed also this coming week. Does LMU care about your church affiliation at all?

No, it most certainly is not impossible for you to get into LMU. Their average GPA is around a 3.5, so you're about there. And you always have the option to retake your SATs. I scored a 2050 after two times taking it, with a 760 writing and a 720 critical reading. Do the math on the math section, it was horrible. Anyways, my GPA isn't even as high as yours, so don't worry too much about it. The fact that you attended a Christian private school will also help out but no, they don't care about your religious affiliation.

Well LMU's average gpa is a 3.6W (However, these numbers are of the people who applied, and the numbers of those who actually enrolled is lower)

And LMU doesn't count the writing section, so that kind of sucks for you because your score is really good. You have a 1030, and their average is a 1165.

My friend had a 3.6, 1000 SAT, and a top 10% rank and she was rejected, so I'm assuming LMU really looks at SAT scores....so I really suggest you bring your score up to an 1100 atleast.

If you do that, I'm pretty sure you will get in.

LMU is looking more like my number one school as the days go by. Miami is getting too competitive so I am definitely not getting my hopes up. But I really love LMU so if I get in there I will be perfectly happy.

You apply for this coming fall or the next like me? I use to want to go to U of Miami. Since I moved back to CA, I want to stay here now. Visited LMU this past Monday. Got a really good first impression.

My daughter was accepted to both LMU and U of Miami - we are having a hard time making a final decision. She was also accepted (1st choice) to USC but it is for the spring 2008 semester. So since that really makes it confusing - what would she do for the fall and would she be behind her peers? So if she were to choose between LMU an U of Miami - do you have input for me? She will study communicaitons, entertainment, theatre.

kathyb - I personally think that Miami and LMU are very similar. However, i would choose Miami because it is more well known, and the connections are probably stronger. Also Hurricane football is amazing. But other than that the schools are basically the same.

I looked at Miami too (maybe its a weather thing) but went with LMU. It was a nicer campus in a better area and that set it over the edge. Miami does have more name recognition because sports and size though which is a plus but the two are quite similiar.

msett1, have you looked at UNLV? They've got a good hospitality emphasis. LMU's business program is very good especially for entrepreneurship (ranked top 13 in the nation by Entrepreneur Magazine).

I do not believe religious affiliation provides bonus point per se. LMU will probably care about your church work mostly because it shows your extracurricular involvement so I would certainly play it up and be comfortable with it.
