Chances...?

Copying the other junior who just posted chances, so…Hey! I am a junior and I visited Amherst a couple of months ago and I fell in love with it! My profile isn’t complete, obviously, but if here is roughly what it would look like (sorry if it’s a bit detailed, I want to really communicate what my activities entail, aka sell myself shamelessly for the sake of approval haha):

GPA: weighted 99.6 out of 100, don’t know unweighted
Rank: school does not rank
SAT I: 760 CR; 650 M; 730 W (will take it again next month, hopefully raise the score a little)
SAT II: World History - 780; US History - pending; English Lit - pending
AP’s: 6 by the end of senior year (already got a 5 on the World History, let’s hope that’s a consistent trend  )

EC’s, etc:
-English Honor Society (probably an officer next year)
-Spanish Honor Society
-National Honor Society
-Gay-Straight Alliance
-Editor and contributor for school literary magazine (probably editor in chief next year)
-Articles for school newspaper
-Flute/Concert band for 9 years
-horseback riding for 4 years
-member of a community Shakespeare theatre for kids for 7 years (will have performed or be involved in about 13 Shakespeare productions) <—this is my big one
- continuous volunteer work within the company: painting sets, setting up stages, helping younger kids learn lines, junior assistant directing
- company traveled to Texas to teach and perform to high school, middle school and elementary school children on a four-day trip, funded by an organization that does that kind of stuff
- performed one of our plays in NYC at an off-Broadway theatre at the invitation of the theatre
-2 other community theatre productions (one a kids company, another a mainly adult theatre)
-helped found a local chapter of Girl Talk, a mentoring program by high school girls for middle school girls, all work for that is unpaid community service
-volunteer work at local arts center (will probably be a couple of hours per week from now to next winter)

Other:
-white female from NY
-Rec’s will probably be very good (from teachers I’ve known for several years; am familiar/friendly with guidance counselor)
-Writing is my big thing, so essays should be strong

Thanks for reading all of that and I appreciate your responses!

As a fellow white female from NY, things are pretty tough for us because we are so prevalent. Apply, you never know what will happen. College admissions is pretty random at times.

Your stats are in line. If your essays are great, you should have a chance. The key is to make yourself stand out from the other 10000 kids that apply. If writing is your strong point, that should help. There are no interviews, so you ressays are critical. It will depend on what Amherst needs - are you going to continue with the flute? If so, contact the music dept. Send in that tape. They just might need a flautist. That's the gist of it - will you fill the right slot? Can you distinguish yourself from all other wonderful applicants? You will never know unless you apply. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate your input and definitely agree with you. That's what I always think of as well, filling the slot. It's kind of sucky if you think about it, but it's like they have a board with X amount of places, each of them labeled "musician" or "writer" or whatever and you have to nab whichever one fits you.

precisely Phedre. Welcome to the sucky game known as 'College admissions' where we aren't people but just slots to fill in :P - same with the rest of colleges. You'll do well to carry ejr1's advice to ALL the rest of the colleges. Remember, unlike people on this forum, colleges won't be lucking for just great statistics. They'll be look for uniqueness.
