Chances

I am on the school newspaper and my citys youth newspaper will that improve my chances of getting into Nyu?

Most likely, yes... although we don't know what your stats are, or what else you do, so...

i have done this before but a couple of things have changed since the last time i posted a chance thread.

I am a African American Female high school junior from California my school is in the top 200 for the best schools in the nation. My school has 2000 people in it and i am one of 10 black people in my whole entire school. I started going there my sophmore year so my grades dropped that year so it brought down my gpa a bit. Also i am from a single parent household. Suffered from a medical condition brought down my gpa a little in sophmore year.

Are you applying to CAS?

yes i am applying to CAS

I would say you are practically a shoe-in then. NYU seems to care a lot about SAT scores. i.e. I had a subpar high school GPA but a pretty high SAT score and I was not only admitted to CAS but invited to the Presidential Honors Scholars (top 5% of the incoming class).

Does anybody else think i have a chance at NYU?

i think you'll get into CAS, you gpa is on the lower side, but your standardized tests are on the higher side so you should be good to get in, i'd suppose

you have a great chance, but being a minority will only help you slightly if at all. so get those gpas up

are the standards for people coming from california lower than those coming from the east coast for NYU admissions?

i think lots of people come from california, so it's not that big of a difference compared to the entire east coast. it might be different when considering ny, nj .etc

you guys aren't very good at this "what are my chances" thing. Being a minority with that SAT score, you will definitely get in...I would apply to some ivies if I were you. Your GPA really isn't that bad, especially if you explain it with move in school/medical condition (write some essay about how your previous hs sucked, so you were behind because of no fault of your own, but after one year--through hard work-- you were able to overcome the medical condition and tougher curriculum)

i never actually read anything more than the last question asked. defintely apply to ivies (yes, even the higher ones).

Am thirding the "apply for the Ivies" thing. You're an URM, and you definitely have a lot of things going for you.

my friend who is spanish, was only top 5% at my HORRIBLE high school (70% graduation, 40% college) with a 1400/1600 on his SAT's and got into Yale with no major EC's or accomplishments. Got a hefty scholarship also, even though he's middle/upper middle class.

they need to fix affirmative action. anywyas dreams you'll be fine getting into nyu regardless of your ethnicity. just write a good essay

thank you for replying
