In state, white male

GPA: Around a 3.0, hopefully a 3.1-2 by now.... upward trend, I'm doing great in the last marking period, but unforunately before recently, I didn't put much effort into anything. No APs (well, one or two next year), and about 1/2 of my main classes are/were honors. Not sure if my GPA was weighted, I don't believe so.

Blue ribbon high school, one of the top in NJ.

SAT: 1240 old, 1780 new (580 CR, 660 Math, 540 Writing)
EC's: I worked for over two years at a supermarket, but only did one club outside of that.
Letter: One so far, might ask for another.
I plan on doing some volunteer work over the summer.

For my major, I'm thinking history with a philosophy minor. Something English-related is also a possibility, but nothing is definite yet.

Does Rutgers do the SAT scores by superscore? If so, I'll definitely take the SATs again (I plan to once more anyway), since I did better in all three sections on the PSATs. And how much do they look at the writing section? I only scored an 8/12 on my essay, which surprised me because I thought it was well-writen and deserved better (I disagreed with the question, which is usually looked down upon I believe, although my argument was good).

Any advice/insight? I think I have a good chance, especially if I do well at the beginning of Senior year. Does Rutgers look into the essay very much? Hopefully they do, I'm great at that sort of thing and it would help compliment my GPA. Thanks in advance :)
