Well, im black....and im a girl. im the co-president of a non profit organization that connects students with jobs/internships in the community, i like to think it's pretty unique. i also moved to the US at 4 from africa and will be applying as a resident. financial aid is not a major issue.

Major: International Relations, Broadcast Journalism, or Law (or combination somehow ie. major in IR and minor in BJ.

so i know my SAT scores stink and im devoting every moment to adjusting that part of my resume. what do you think my chances are? any adivice on how to improve them?

Those are pretty impressive leadership positions. I was the captain of the debate team, but it ended up being more ceremonial than practical. You're from Georgia, huh? What school do you go to? I go to Chattahoochee, we're pretty active in the local circuit too.

Did you take the ACT? You should take it as many times as you can. You can pick and choose which ACTs go to colleges so if you take it 4 times you can just send the best one. Also, Wash U, unlike most other colleges, superscores the ACT - so if on one test you do better on math and science and on the other one you do better on the reading and english they just use the highest scores from each one. Some people find the ACT easier. Also - a tip - don't read the science passages, just try to answer the questions by looking at the graphs, etc. Otherwise you'll run out of time.

Good luck - everything looks great except for SATs.

Did you mean to post this to a Wash U thread? Your extracurriculars are impressive. I wish you luck. I will be a freshman this year, and like you my interests were International and Area Studies (awesome at WUSTL) and Broadcast Journalism (essentially non-existent at Wash U, at least in the academic sense). I had to reconcile that I could pursue the former academically and pick up the latter as an extra-curricular and maybe do some post-bacc work if it still interested me in 4 years. I had not even checked whether wash u had a communications or journalism program (unfortunately) until after I had already fallen in love with the place!! But if your first-love is broadcast journalism, you might want to look at U. of Missouri-Columbia, Boston University, Syracuse, etc. AT LEAST you won't be clueless until senior fall like I was!!

Everything else looks good, but like you mentioned, your SATs need work. Wit the math, I found that the best method to improving them was practice. Just get a big practice book on just the SAT1 math and practice. The reading and writing are different stories though. So far, the only correlation I've seen is that the more you read the better you are at those sections.

But personally, I always recommend the ACTs over the SATs.
Good luck!
