potential major: chemistry, chemical engineering

You are definately in range. Although Chicago has an excellent Chemistry department, they do not offer a Chem E degree.

do you think that the C that i had in honors english 2 sophmore year second semester of the b+ in geometry first semester is gonna kille me? or do my other grades/ ACT scores offset that

I think Chicago is going to be a little bit reach-y for you, unless you can show the school that you are right for it. Your profile is strong, for sure, but from an adcom's point of view I think it's hard to tell who you are and why you would fit in here. Make sure your essays and supplementals show more about you.

The low grades might cause some concern, but I don't think they will rule you out of consideration.

How does your out of school activities show that you want to be in chemistry?

Uchicago doesn't offer chem engineering- liberal arts and engineering is a tad hard to do in 4 years. Do you really want the Core? I see that your english scores are below your other grades- that may hurt you because of the emphasis placed on being great at ALL subjects. If you could get a GREAT recommendation from an english-department teacher, then you may be in the clear. They want to see you as more than a student good at math and chem- but a PERSON with many more interests and abilities.

"do you think that the C that i had in honors english 2 sophmore year second semester of the b+ in geometry first semester is gonna kille me?"

They won't help - but they aren't going to put you out of running either. If you are interested in the Core, its certainly worth an application. The other schools that come to mind as pretty solid matches would be URochester and Case.

You are a very good student; you've got a couple of warts in your application. However ... even if you didn't, admissions are still hard to predict (unless you are applying to entirely numbers driven schools). You can't assume one particular (selective) school will come through ... you can have have a fair degree of confidence in a good list.

If you are not sure if you want chem e or chem at this point, you may want your list to include a range of engineering schools, and a range of non-engineering colleges and uni's. Its hard to know what you will want come April - having good options either way will make for a happy spring.

Also - if you haven't had the money talk with your folks, do so ASAP.

well, does chicago look at all my ACT scores, because the other time i took the ACT i got a 35 in the reading. How my grade dropped so much, i dont know.

You should consider taking on more leadership roles in your ECs. Consider taking the SAT although I found the ACT to be MUCH easier. Best of luck!

having been accepted to chicago last year. I will tell you that test scores are not what matters. I had a 30 act and a 1790 sat, both of which i sent them. All that really matters is the essay that you write for chicago. best of luck

Chicago takes every score separately. They see your highest score in each subject and composite. They do not reconfigure a new composite- they just take note that you did better the next/last time in that subject.

Send in both scores cause then they'll see

30 eng 35 reading 34 math 33 science 32 comp and 12 writing

wait dannonwater, not trying to doubt you, but where di you find the information that UChicago superscores the ACT? I thought most schools just did the SAT? and if they do, can you tell me what other sschools superscore the ACT?

I was talking with an admissions counselor when I went on a visit. I was wondering if I had to send them all of my ACT scores or just my highest. She then went on to tell me about their ACT scoring. I got excited due to my varied ACT abilities.

Chicago was my first and only love. I never asked any other school.

wow that is AWESOME!
