I am an Hispanic male, who will be at a private prep in VA for my senior year. My first 3 years were at a public school and I majorly messed up my first two years. I did take honors classes (English and History), but my GPA was not up to par. My junior year I improved quite a bit and made honor roll each semester with 3 AP classes. My senior year I will have 4 AP classes and I have been taking college classes at my local community college with 2 B's and an A.
My high school GPA is a 3.2. My EC's are good, President of class, editor of yearbook, community service etc. ACT is 30. Should I even apply? I have heard the average GPA of entering freshman at W&L is not that high. What is the truth?
W&L is where I want to be, but can my interview and essay make-up for my first two years? Any opinions?

This is the link to the W&L Common Data Set for 06/07 so you can evaluate your own chances.

As long as you don't use the word "majorly" in your essays, you have a mediocre chance.

Motherdear, thanks for the link, I had previously seen it and W&L does not post GPA's. I did find this though, http://www.virginiamentor.org/campustour/undergraduate/735/Washington_and_Lee_University/Washington_and_Lee_University3.html .

are you considering ED or RD?

i just reviewed the cds and the gpa has been elminated. rank might serve you better to get an idea. another idea is to look at the various tcci naviance scattergrams that are accessible on the web. your hs might subscribe.

your act is right in the middle but not that many submit the act.

he urm status might cut in your favor. your courseload should also help. ECs are very helpful.

interview at WnL or with an alumni member. good luck

Musictoad, thanks, I had forgotten about Naviance. I checked, my ACT falls right within the average, my EC's are good, but again no GPA is listed. On W&L's website, there is a new IM feature to speak with an admissions counselor, so I will try that tomorrow.
