I think you have a great shot, but sadly, since you seem to be white, you'll probably be rejected.....(sorry).... Are you rich? legacy?

haha...white? what gave it away?

i wouldnt call my family rich. we are well off finanically
and no i dont have any legacy.

What do you want to major in?

Whiteness is just so easy to spot....lol

But don't be too discouraged. Princeton wants a well-rounded CLASS that will hopefully represent the makeup of society, so obviously they're going to take some regular white kids. Don't lose hope, but don't fall in love with Pton, either.

thanks, I think princeton is a great school but i havent "fallen in love" with any school yet.

as for major, i'm not entirely sure but at this point i wanna major in business

Princeton doesn't have a business major. You might want to take that into consideration.

right but they do have a masters in finance, i may do that.

im not really sure of a major, i just enjoy business. i might consider engineering as well

At many of the IVYs, students headed for business typically major in economics (and the business world understands that).

As for your chances, you are definitely in the running everywhere. However, you are spread out. P and other top schools like hooks.

Nope, you'll need a minimum of 1600.

Princeton doesn't have a finance major, only a certificate (minor).

MzLover: You sir are a complete idiot. You take afirmative action too seriously and believe that every white person who applies to an Ivy will get rejected unless they have a national level accomplishment. Keep in mind that the overwhelming majority of matriculants at any university in this nation are white because news flash this is a white man's country. The candidate above is stellar in every aspect from grades to SAT's to extracurriculars. The OP is not a probable reject at any IVY. In fact, I actually think that the OP has an 80-90 percent chance of getting into Princeton and the rest of HYPSM and is basically a lock anywhere else.

I am angered by the fact that Hispanics like you are given even a slight edge in college admissions when you clearly aren't disadvantaged and have no problem in denouncing any other applicant. You clearly have set high standards for yourself, though I am unaware of your stats, so I hope that colleges will expect a higher degree of accomplishment when reading you application!!!

Wow.........

Wooowzzzzzaaaa....

manonfire, I'm glad you think that about the OP. I hope you're right in your assessment.

As for your personal attack on me, you don't know what your talking about. Where do you get the idead that I'm not disadvantaged? I've been living in this country for five years (bilingual education for 2), live in an two-bedroom apartment with 8 other people, work two jobs, and yet I'm ranked 5th in my class, 3 X 800 SAT II, and 1350 SAT.

If anybody's is a "complete idiot" here, it's you. You've talked to me on AIM before and I've told you my stats.

Somehow I get that idea that someone as intellectually gifted as you (that post in which you asked CC users to do your math homework was clearly written by someone else) would remember everything he reads.

a white man's country... isn't the hispanic population supposed to outnumber whites in several decades (i.e. pretty soon)?

but regardless of the above question, manonfire, you need to shut the hell up and leave MzLover3 alone. keep in mind that MzLover3 DID say "you have a great shot" to the thread starter. and just 'coz he's cognizant of how competitive the pool of applicants is, doesn't mean you need to get all nasty with him. MzLover3, whatever school you end up attending will be very lucky to have you. now, if i could only take this outside with manonfire...

Oh yea, I did talk to you on AIM, so I guess you've got me there. I apologize for not remembering your stats. Look I'm just frustrated that college admissions expectations rise so much for Whites and Asians. Income level doesn't have any correlation with academic prowess unless you're DIRT poor, which in your case you're not.

My dad grew up in India and walked 5 miles to school and back with like the same sandals for 10-15 years. He had to light candles to do his homework in the night because there was no electricity in the village that he lived in. In fact, he often told me that he had to study and sleep outside because it was often very stuffy and humid in the house. There were no outside resources that were available(or that my grandprents could afford) to help him prepare for the national written tests that he had to take(SAT- equivalent). Yet, through all of this, he go almost a near perfect score on a rigorous exam that is quite arguably 100 times harder than the SAT(at least math for sure). In conclusion, success can be attained by ny member of any race in any condition(unless physically tormented, etc...).

I am just ****ed off that for a non-minority applicant to an Ivy-caliber school, solid grades, excellent test scores, and decent EC's do not suffice. I jut wish that colleges placed more emphasis was placed on academics than weird national hooks, affirmative action, class diversity, etc(not to say I don't have good EC's). I wish the best of luck to the OP and MzLover, wherever they get accepted.

On a final note, the only reason I asked for help on those Calculus problems because I really did put an effort in to solve them, but yet I could not come up with a solution. MzLover, I don't think that there's anything wrong with asking questions, if everyone knew everything, then there would be no need for education would there??? So, I fail to realize why you keep patronizing me about that Calculus Help thread that I created. I am not all-knowing and there is no one on this forum that is, however we are all good at our won little niches. Regardless, I now know how to solve thos problems so no harm done.:)

Glad we cleared that up :)

I wish you the best of luck too and I apologize about affirmative action. It should be an incentive to work harder and turn back the liberal apocalypse ;)

manonfire, I disagree with " jut wish that colleges placed more emphasis was placed on academics than weird national hooks, affirmative action, class diversity, etc". What makes a person special? HYP doesnt want a bunch of nerds...they want people who are well rounded. would u prefer a nerd who studied 24/7 and got a 1600 800x3, or a athlete-artist-entreprenuer with the same stats? Id say the second one. there are tons of them out there, and thats why nerds get rejected and the well rounded ones get accepted.

Just wondering...Ivysrule...if you all of those extra-c's, like volunteering, band, presidents of clubs, etc., then when do you have time for your sports. You seem to have a major sport each season....and I know that schools in our area, sports are 6 days a week, whether it is practice or games. Then, take into consideration the travel factor of away games. If you have a game on a Tue/Thur or Sat, how do you do the volunteer work? Also, when do you have time to get your homework done?
Just wondering, because it seems as though you do a bit too much. Maybe you handle it, I don't know. Also, do you have time aside on Fridays or Saturdays to be with your friends? That's a big part of growing up in the teenage years. I hope you are not shortchanging yourserlf. Don't get me wrong, I am not being critical, I just wonder how it all gets done?
