Chances?

Hey everyone, I am a sophomore in high school, and I was just wondering what chances I have to get into really good college. I am a very hard working student. I motivated about school, and learning. I am a perfectionist at everything I do, I run track, and want to be an actress.

Freshman year 2.5gpa
Sophomore year 3.8gpa( I have a 3.5 but I will defintely get it to a 3.8)

My problem is I screwed up freshman year, and now I have face the consequences. I haveto bring my freshman year cum 2.7 to like a 3.8. I mean I have to do it. I am afraid that it is not possible. I work extremely hard to get the grades that I have, but It seems like since I messed freshman year my whole transcript will look bad. I mean if I get at least a 3.9 junior year, and senior year, have a high cum do I have a chance to get into a good college. Now also I have to take the SAT's which are now out of 2400 for the class of 2007, so more pressure. When you I start taking SAT prep classes?

So any word of advice?Considering I want to go to Nyu, Brown, Georgetown, Florida State, Columbia. I mean the top colleges with really good performing arts programs.I just dont want to go any college, I want to go to colleges with a good perfoming arts program. Education being my number priority, I want to go to college with a great level of teaching, and have the best teachers.

I mean like I work so hard but I feel I am stupid. Everyone tells me I am smart, and all my teachers tell me I am their best student. But I am constanly comparing myself to kids who have higher GPA's than me, and my school is very competitve. The good thing I like about my school is that there is no class rank. You are rank by like if your grade is smart. For example, like if you have like a 3.5 you are rank with all the 3.5's. It is really weird, but it's a really top notch school, and everyone takes honors and AP. I dont take honors, or AP. I just work so hard, but I feel I will be proud of myself until I be the best, and get the perfect gpa.

I am in the exact same situation, w/ POOR freshman grades (more specifically, first term) and it sucks! Well.. nothing we can do, except we have to do exceptionally well in the upcoming terms. Good luck to you and keep that motivated, positive attitude.

Many of us have given you advice before when you posted. You need to follow that advice, including getting help with your grammar, which continues to be deficient. It also will be hard for you to get into the kind of schools that you wish unless you take honors or AP.

Columbia4life, you needn't worry about your Freshman grades. Many top universities (Princeton, Stanford, Michigan etc...) no longer look at Freshman grades and even schools that do look at Freshman grades will not weigh them nearly as heavily as Sohomore and Junior grades. So if you can maintain your 3.8+ GPA, your Freshman grades will most likely be overlooked but most top universities...especially if you ace your SAT.

Schools that are excellent in the performing arts include Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, NYU, UCLA and Yale. If you are interested in Musical Theater, you can add Michigan-Ann Arbor and Johns Hopkins to the list.

I agree with Northstarmom that your grammar is weak. You will have to work on that...even if English is not your native language.

Hey good luck! I was wondering with these stats if i could get into these schools:
3.92unweighted
4.3 weighted
I am taking a ton of AP's for my senior year. I will end up with 6 for just senior year alone.
All state for soccer.
4 years varsity soccer
I dont need any fanancial aid
Student body president
Been looked at by many colleges for soccer
Can i get into Notre Dame, Yale, NYU, Cornell, UPenn, and al the other top schools?
My dad knows a lot of those people because he owns his own larger company.
What do i NEED to get on my SATs?
And what else should i take? Will debate team help me out?
Thanks for the help.

What's your class rank? Do students from your school with similar stats usually get into top universities? Did you take any AP exams?

With a strong SAT score (over 2100), you have a reasonable shot at most universities. Yale is always a long shot, but a strong SAT score would put you in contention.
