ZOMG you have such cool science classes at school!!!
we don't even have physics C and we can't take 2 science classes at once
our math only goes up to calc bC....roar... not fair

Oh, poor you :) at my high school, they didn't offer calculus, period, after my soph. year, and there were no AP classes.

No, of course not. I mean, just look at your abysmal SAT I math score, your cupcake senior year math classes (I mean, multivar? come on, that is so third grade), your total lack of commitment in any EC, especially taekwondo, and only 2 years for bio olympiad? I mean, a lot of applicants I knew have done IMO since they were in their baby cradles and still got rejected. Besides, I don't see a Nobel prize in your resume. Maybe a cupcake school like MIT would be a better fit. ;)

(kidding, of course, but are you really wondering if there's hope? :P)

You'll see in dec or march whether or not you'll get in. What people say here doesn't mean or do anything. Only your real decision from Caltech will make a difference.

How do you have a 4.12 out of 4 GPA? If you're giving us a weighted GPA it's obviously not out of 4. For example, some schools weight honors classes .25 above regular and AP .5 above regular (so an AP A would be a 4.5). Some schools weight all honors/AP classes a point above regular (so an AP/honors A would be a 5).

I'm of the opinion that unweighted GPA is much more useful than weighted GPA given the numerous different standards of weighting, especially since the classes you've taken are clearly rigorous, but if you're going to quote weighted GPA you should at least do so with the scheme for weighting.

Actually, Caltech has a system like that. An A+ is a 4.3 so if you had straight A+'s you would have a 4.3/4.0 GPA, not like that really comes up though. (There are some people who do have a > 4 GPA.)

I'm aware of Caltech's grading scheme. The being said I'm used to GPA being written as points obtained / points possible. I would argue that Caltech's GPA is actually out of 4.3, even though we don't typically refer to it that way. It's all semantics.

In any case, my point about mentioning the standards of weighting is still valid.
