would be first from my school to apply to UMD

scholars...? YES. i disagree with testudo about her getting into HONORS, your sat is way higher than hers. less than 2000 is not cool. she has 1270 is you exclude the writing part.

yeah, but i'm retaking it in the fall. twenty bucks says i can get it up to a 1350 w/o the writing. not to sound arrogant or anything, but i really think i can do it (i've done it on practice tests). Let's say i got a 2030 overall. what would my chances be then?

Sorry I don't. I heard the 1400 figure directly from UMD. If you're planning to tour I think you can go ahead and ask outright. I don't think they're reluctant to share info. And bear in mind that if the average for Honors is 1400 a bunch of people got in with scores lower than that. Your GPA is great. If you can up your SATs with a fall re-take that would probably be a big help. I suspect that CR and math are still considered to a greater extent than writing so you might want to focus on those, especially since writing is already your best score. On a tour of another Maryland campus (UMBC) last fall we were told that they didn't consider writing. That might not be the case at UMCP and it might change with time though. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll definitely ask. I think you are correct MD_Mom, I believe they do put more emphasis on math and CR. Does anyone know if MD super-scores?
