Hey everyone,

Shadowing
Shadowed the director of the Critical Care Department at Northwestern. I observed both surgeries and emergency room situations.

College's I'm Looking Into
Accelerated Programs: Northwestern's HPME (Dream), Case Western PPSP, USC BA/MD, Rice/Baylor, UMKC, SLU, UIC GPPA

Regular Undergrad: Wash U, Duke, John Hopkins, Cornell, Dartmouth

Feel free to suggest other universities and programs.

Thank You

HPME - Reach (for everyone). Just make sure you're prepared for the interview!
Wash U - Slight reach
Duke - Low Reach
JHU - Low Reach
Cornell - Lower-medium reach
Dartmouth - Lower-medium Reach

Brown PLME?

Your ACT score is high enough already. I don't see why you would retake the SAT unless you feel confident enough to get a 1600. If you have already paid, then by all means take it, but it is a little overkill.

You're ECs are great, but not super impressive.

I don't know about accelerated programs, so I will just chance you for the regular undergrad colleges.

Wash U. - Low Reach
Duke - Low Reach
Johns Hopkins - High Match
Cornell - Low Reach
Dartmouth - Low Reach

I suggest you find more safeties and matches. Shooting for the stars is great, just have a solid Plan B.

What colleges would you suggest in terms of matches and safeties. Currently my only safety is UofI(instate).

Any decent uni or liberal arts college with a premed major would be fine.

I'm going to also add that the 6yr med programs are significantly more competitive than the universities themselves. You have to be admitted and then you are considered for the program. So you could get into Brown and NOT into PLME.

yeah, i wouldn't bother retaking SAT

Would you not recommend the SAT even if I aim to score above a 2250?

How about retaking the ACT to get a 35, My last score was a 34.25, 1 more point in any section would be rounded to a 35.

The one point will NOT make a difference between acceptance and rejection.

I'm currently shadowing a doctor and Northwestern, and one of the doctors' residents recommended that I apply to more safety type schools so that I could ensure a high gpa for med school.

What schools have good premed (biology) programs?

All of the ones you've listed.

You have a good chance at all of those schools. Hope to see you at Duke next year.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Here is the list of where I'm applying.

University of Illinois - Urbana
UIC GPPA (BS/MD program)
Case Western Reserve University PPSP (BS/MD program)
Northwestern HPME (BS/MD program)
Rice University (BS/MD program)
USC (BS/MD program)
Saint Louis University (BS/MD program)
Wash U in St. Louis
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
John Hopkins
Duke
Dartmouth
Cornell

lol you love those mutli-year programs dont you? but you got quite a hefty list but i think you should get into atleast couple of those..

Holy Cross has a great pre-med program and nice campus 1 hour from Boston. HC is top30 LAC and is SAT optional.

Holy Cross, I'll take a look.

As for the multiyear programs, I feel as though I do better when I have some type of guarantee. I mean, with most of those programs, I'll still maintain a high enough GPA and take the MCAT's to give myself the opportunity to go somewhere better.

Any other comments would be appreciated.

Are you fast enough to run for any of these colleges? This can help your chances. It's easy to check you XC and track times against average runners at schools on your list.

johns hopkins, not john hopkins. if you're applying, get the name right please =]
