Asian Male

From: Vidalia, GA
School: Vidalia High (public school)
Rank: 3/160
Would like to apply early decision, took campus visit in June, and invited back to an Emory preview in September, so hopefully the demonstrated interest will be beneficial to me.

Took SAT once in March:
620 CR
590 Math (terrible)
580 Writing
Will take again in October, hoping for around 1350 combined!

As of now, took the most challenging schedule our school offered, with honors classes, as we just got AP this year. As a senior, taking AP Calc, AP Physics, AP Chem, Sport Marketing elective, and two college courses (Gov. and Eng.) at Brewton Parker, a private college nearby. Only chinese person in my whole school of around 600 students, so I am a minority around here.(can't wait to leave...)

Now I am only listing the honors classes, and they are weighted. I do not know my GPA unweighted, but should be close to 4.0.

9th grade- total NGA(numerical value)= 95.714
total GPA= 4.0
Main Courses: Biology, Geometry, Geography, and English Lit/Comp

10th grade- total NGA= 97.857
total GPA= 4.0

11th grade- total NGA= 100.143
total GPA= 4.0

plenty more..

lots of extracurriculars, um worked at MRMC hospital and helped with providing help during outpatient surgery, halloween/christmas parade leader etc. any more just ask me and thanks for checking this out!

any opinions guys? thanks

I think your biggest obstacle to admittance would be your SAT scores. Grades, ECs, and rank seem okay, but you should probably try and retake the tests.

Yea you seem to have good ECs, but you def need to get that test score up. Maybe try the ACT. A 1350 would still be on the lower end I think--I don't know the exact numbers though.

Everything looks good except for your GPA. A solid 1400 is really a nice score for Emory. 1350 might be on the low side, especially being Asian. Retake the test, and consider getting a SAT tutor or taking a class.

Good luck.

you mean the SAT dell? and yes I am just hoping for a 1400 that would be really great! Also would it be too late to try the ACT since I plan on trying to apply for ED? thanks

Haha sorry, I mean SAT. If you had a 1400 GPA, well that'd be a different story!

One more question guys: Would it be better to wait for ED2 than ED1 because I am registered to take the October SAT and say if it is still not what I want which would you guys recommend applying for? Then I would have the Nov. and Dec. Sat to make a better score... Also what is the average time that I would know the if I were admitted or not? A month or two?

bump please a few more comments thanks
