PS- I want to study Math possibly with some sort of philosophy minor, with a goal of Med School in the future. University of Chicago is probably my number one choice, or number two.....

you're in the range of admitted students, for sure, but as I'm not an admissions person, I could not predict your chances for you...

... however, I will say that if you really like this school, make sure that comes through in your application.

If you know everything about you is super-de-duper ("look I have TEH AWESOME ACT SCOREZ and HARD CLASSES and TONZ OF ECS and CRAZY GREAT RECS"), then why are you still so insecure that you have to post all of this to earn some anonymous Internet bulletin board poster's validation?

Well, I do not really think that I am that super-de-duper, I know of a lot of people with a better resume than mine (in fact it is not that hard to find one on CC). I detect a bit of sarcasm, but if not, thanks for thinking I am so awesome... For future reference, if threads like these make you so angry that you can't help but lashing out at the thread starter...stop reading them.

Now, anymore CONSTRUCTIVE critisism?

It's impossible to determine somebody's actual chances, and the data that anybody knowledgeable on these forums goes by is the same data that you've seen, data that is publicly available. I attend the school, but I have no more information than you do. Here is probably the most helpful website I can give you regarding what Chicago looks for in an applicant:

http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/level3.asp?id=377

Thanks for the link and the info unalove...

Your stats look really strong. Just work hard on your essays, make sure your "voice" and your passion for learning comes through , and be sure to tell Chicago exactly why you want to go to college there! Good luck. I'd apply early if I were you. Nothing like a nice fat envelope before Xmas to help make the Holidays bright!

as far as I am concerned, everyone applying to competitive schools SHOULD be a little insecure ... at least insecure enough to apply to a couple of likelies. If you have read enough admission results, you will realize that unexpected stuff happens.

Sorry to hear about your tennis injury. Make sure your GC notes this in his/her rec.

If you are thinking seriously of med school, you may want to think about the pro's and cons of being a math major at Chicago. You may be a wonderful mathematician, but I am not seeing any interest in math in your extra- and co-curriculars. Of course, math-cetric activities aren't necessary to be successful - its just that college level math - for math majors - can be a bit of a surprise. However, since you don't have to declare your concentration until the later part of second year, you've really got a lot of flexibility.

Have you had a chance to visit the campus yet?

you're school inflates GPAs a lot..but your test scores and ECs are definitely good enough to get you into Chicago

thanks for the replies everyone!

Looking at all the stats you have provided I have been able to calculate that you have a 42.69% ( + or - 0.01%) chance of being accepted.

Honestly, what do you want people to tell you? Your class rank is perfect, your GPA is damn near perfect, your ACTs are damn near perfect, you've taken all APs?

What do you want us to say? "You have a good chance"? "You'll probably get in?" "Sorry your 4.997 GPA isn't good enough"?

He wants us to tell him if there's something ELSE he should be doing or that's important, which there is. Stats aren't everything.

That said, what unalove mentioned, as I see it, is probably the most important thing.

Mm, a few sympathizers on my end...

how is your unweighted 4.997??

CNI-- some schools "weight" the upper level courses on a grade scale where and A is worth 5, so I'm guessing a 4.997 is a lot of As in a lot of tough courses.

Yeah but doesn't placing the "weight" kind of diffuse the purpose of an "unweighted" gpa? What I'm saying is most gc's and students will agree that unweighted GPA's are based on the 4.0 scale, with 4.0 being the highest. (with few exceptions like Stanford which does 4.3)

Yup, it's all artificial, and that's why colleges have to know the grading system to really understand what a particular GPA means. Our HS gives a 4.5 to an A in an AP course, 4.25 to an honors course A and the A in a college prep class gets a 4.0. It makes class rank seem more fair and those who take the most demanding load feel rewarded.

Wow, that is supposed to be 3.997

Ah, never mind the 5.0 scale speculation for your situation!
