Just wondering what my chances are for Cox Business School.

Unweighted GPA: 3.55/Weighted GPA: 3.6-3.65
ACT Score: 30
School doesn't report ranks
From Nebraska
Rigorous College Prep school
5 AP classes/4 self-study APs
Caucasian
Jehovah's Witness

No real leadership positions, but 500+ hours of community service, 3 year varsity athlete (state qualifier/placer, etc.) - but I no longer play, some other ECs, held a job consistently, etc.

Great recommendations (I've seen both of them, and they cite that I'm one of their best students that they've had in their teaching career) from two different subject areas.

Essay about my parent's addiction and how it's influenced me.

Not sure considering my relative lack of expertise, but I would give for a fair-good shot. I got in with the same GPA and slightly higher equivalent SAT score (2070)
Potentially excellent essay topic, but it should be unique and set apart from those of others writing about the same thing
Make sure you interact with admissions, schedule an interview if you can. I think that's what pushed me over the edge in EA.

Hope to possibly see you at Dedman in the following years, although I haven't given up on Wake Forest XD

Yeah, I think you will probably get in. As for scholarship, its up in the air, but if you are going into the Dedman school (and I don't know your gender), I will not expect anymore than 5k. I hope to see you soon. ;)

All students at SMU are admitted generally to the university. Then, after typically three semesters of “pre-business” classes, students who meet the criteria are admitted to the Cox School of Business.

For students entering SMU this fall, to be admitted to Cox you must compete the seven Business Subset classes and maintain a 3.3 GPA in those classes. Your academic advisor will help you plan for these classes and will keep you on track for admission to Cox.
