<p>smartergoat - your stats are good, but so are those of most everyone who applies. Good EC's. Your essays need to be stellar. This is a major crapshoot and will be determined by what the school needs next year - a cellist? athlete? math major? Who knows? Good luck.</p>

<p>carmenhere- S has a good chance, if his class rank and grades match the SAT scores. Plus is he is male. There are now more females than males in last year's class. His stats are really good. Now, his essays will determine it. Amherst looks at the whole student, and places a lot of importance on the essays, so who knows? Good luck. This is all a crapshoot.</p>
