Applied for Ithaca Leadership Scholarship

How much merit aid do you think I have a chance of getting? I'm pretty sure I'll get the leadership award.

As to Williams and Amherst...they always boast that colleges like themselves could fill their entire freshman class with 4.2 GPA's and 2400's but they DON'T. So I feel like I'm one of the top people that would be admitted because of E.C's, Rec's, etc. I think my grades/sat scores get my foot in the door?

Merit aid: Ithaca: Not sure with your GPA, but certainly based on your SAT's...When did you apply? They are somewhat rolling (we didn't know that and almost threw away acceptance package thinking it was duplicate information)....Can't guarantee how much merit for you, but d SAT's were lower (2100), GPA was higher...12,000/year...other people on CC also received merit awards with similar stats.....

Let me chime in. I think you have a stellar SAT and your gpa is not that bad, particularly considering the courseload and the fact your school may well be a tough school that is known to the colleges. They know who is fluff and who is not. However, private colleges sometimes admit kids from fluff private schools for reasons I have never fully understood, perhaps its a social class thingie.

Williams and Amherst are after an uber selective group of kids, because they are both very specialized LAC's. If you fit the campus lifestyle and typical student there, and if you interviewed while there and did well, then I think you have a decent shot at it. Touring a campus shows them you care and are not just another kid submitting a "fishing expedition" application who then decides to go elsewhere. They are sensitive about their retention rates.

Your obvious artistic talent, coupled with your leadership skills shows them that you are not just another kid with A's and a high SAT score. I think that matters in cases like yours.

Amherst and Williams are excellent schools, very special for very special people....but not for everyone. I sense you are that special person.

Rodney and safoodlover, thank you both very much for the advice/thoughts/kind words.

I do go to a pretty well-known school...it most certainly has a reputation as being pretty tough academically.

I'm hoping my SAT gets my foot in the door at Williams or Amherst, and then they read my Rec's, see my EC's and Essays, and decide i'm worth admitting regardless of my GPA.

You don't have much of a chance at Amherst or Williams: Your EC's are too mediocre and your awards (quite frankly) suck. You shouldn't even both reporting the magna cum laude you received. The silver medal is ok i guess...

I GOT IN to ITHACA! President's Scholarship..12K a year...waiting to hear about leadership scholarship. I sent it in the 13th, they sent out my letter the 17th, so they probably just don't know yet. We'll see.
