I realized that my current school’s curriculum is way harder/stronger than that of the school I attended back in Guatemala. Although not a straight A’s student, I tried my best to pull a decent GPA while adapting to my new life in the US.

I had slightly better grades and GPA then you, and I was accepted to Stern ED. After going through my college process, all I can say is that the most important factor in determining acceptance is your essay/short answer responses. Let me explain:

One of my friends at my high school applied with these stats:

2290 SAT
4.2 Weighted GPA
3 Varsity Letters
Various clubs/orgs.
All in all, a model candidate. However, he wrote his essay on the effects of his grandfather's death on him. Point being- NYU, and most other colleges, want kids who stand out, in some way, shape, or form. I'm not saying you have to be a freak who can do magic tricks and have a different hair color every day of the week, but you have to show them that you are different- not better- than everyone else.

Good luck with the process- hang in there, you'll know soon enough.

I think the guy you're describing teampakistan will get into most schools regardless of how "unique" he is. Basically NYU has tons of applications to go through and because your GPA and SATs aren't stand out or even above average, you're going to have a tough time getting noticed in the first place. I have the same GPA, better SATs, worse essay, and worse EC. Good luck to both of us :)

Good luck to you too!
