chances

So, Scripps is pretty much my ideal school and it's becoming impossible for me to picture myself anywhere else. As the waiting continues I find myself freaking out about getting in or not, haha. It's probably quite unhealthy... So, I was wondering if I could get someone's opinion on my chances of getting in if anyone has the chance.

GPA- 3.75 unweighted, 4.0 weighted
ACT- 30
(didn't send SATs)
Total of 6 aps and 3 honors classes throughout high school
classes this year- AP Statistics, AP Comparative Government and Politics, AP Music Theory, English, Economics, Creative Writing, Symphonic Band

ecs: Girl Scouts (12 years) recieved Gold Award (healthy kid workshop for two troops at a school in an underpriveleged district) and countless hours of community service- helping out at family recovery centers, food drives etc., Soccer (12 years), high school band (first chair flute and piccolo) with national, county, and school-wide honors, an outside orchestra (3 years), musical theater (2 years), 4 clubs (csf, environmental academy, american cancer society club, national music honors society), Track and Field (3 years)

And I spent 3 weeks this summer at UCSD for a summer program where I lived on campus and took a cognitive science class.

Um, yeah. I guess that's it... I really appreciate this!!

Scripps is a solid match for you. You fall within the middle 50% in grades and scores. The decision will come down to essays, recs, EC's, the relative quality of other applicants, your interview (if applicable), and all of the other factors that really can't be brought into play in a "Chances" thread.

For better or for worse, this is now totally out of your hands. You just have to wait!

Meanwhile, do not stake everything on one acceptance. It's just fine to be (and stay) enthusiastic, but all you're doing right now is making this period unbearable for yourself. I suggest that you use your waiting time to remember what initially excited you about other schools, to find some positive aspects of non-Scripps scenarios, and to turn the rest of your focus away from Scripps. There are hundreds of other wonderful colleges out there. Be glad you've found one you love, but don't fool yourself into thinking that it's the only one for you.

I do hope that things work out for you...good luck, and keep us posted :)

ETA: To be clear, my "Meanwhile..." paragraph isn't supposed to imply that I don't think you have a good shot. You have every reason to be optimistic. On top of strong academics, you've done some wonderful things in your spare time. But with the madness of college admissions--especially at LAC's, where numbers tell such a small part of the story--I just can't stand the idea of anyone (particularly a strong applicant who will undoubtedly get into some great places) putting too many eggs in one basket.

Just wondering if you were hoping to play soccer in college. If so, have you met with the soccer coach? A note from the coach to admissions couldn't hurt.

Student615- Thanks!! Yeah, I tend to become overdramatic about these things a little too much. I do have some other really great schools on my list that I do really like, but sometimes that just gets lost in the madness of my mind :)

ijfri- No, I'm not planning to play in college, but thanks :)
