i hate how usa unis require SAT/ACT even for international students. it’s so stupid, american kids LEARN how to do SAT in school, like 9th and 10th graders’ math and english classes train them for these test, while i have a completely european curriculum.

the trouble with the SAT is that all it measures is.. how well you perform on the SAT.. and that’s it. haha but on the other hand its the only realistic way to compare an entire population of applicants with a controlled variable like that. extracirriculard and whatever else just diversify you. but yeah anyway you just didn’t do that well on the SAT. and all that means is you didn’t do well on the SAT..nothing else. but yeah it prob will hurt you. and since not all public high school students have to take the SAT..completely optional..we are definitely not prepared for it. it’s just pass and if not try again

i had a friend who attended 9th grade at an international school and then repeated 9th and did the rest of his high school at an american high school. he says that the way the curriculum is structured is more helpful towards SAT, definitely.

im doing the IB, and the IB teachings are completely opposite of the SAT. we are taught to analyze passages and prove them and such, in the SAT we HAVE to choose one of the choices of analysis… so it’s just these little things you know. and in the IB you start literature immediately in high school, we dont ever learn any more vocab or grammar and stuff like that you know…

I sympathize with you- i prepped for 4 months almost entirely (just managed to get through school homework) for the sat and gave nearly 15 pratice tests to get a 2160
The indian educ. system doesn’t test either speed or mathematical application. And the difference in English standards is HUGE.
the advantage American students have is that they know they’ll be taking the SAT and start prepping for it in the middle high school.
and for most internationals the decision comes rather late in the senior year.

BU is known to look for more then the SAT marks- hope you make it.

yeah that’s the other thing..I’ve said this a couple times but yeah 7 kids from my graduating class applied to BU and all of us got in except the kid with the highest SAT. it’s not ALL about that test..just the only realistic way to compare every single person to every other person.

I suggest u take TOEFL if u can,
I had a really bad SAT score, and I went to high school in US
I got 700 math 400 reading 400 writing
but my TOEFL is good which is 100 out of 120
and my GPA was really high like 3.9 uw, despite I got a D on my English in my senior second semester.
but hey Im a freshman at BU now, u always got a chance.

if you guys were me (remember, coming from an international student’s perspective) would you choose BU, northeastern, uni of toronto, or uni of british columbia? i already got into toronto and UBC, now just waiting on BU and NEU.
