Though your ACT score is fine, I would say your GPA and lack of honors/AP classes kills your application. Maybe you can take some senior year? It's worth a shot applying if you wish though. If you really have your heart set on UIUC and are still undecided by the time you apply, definitely apply to DGS because it's easier to get accepted through that department.

I don't think your GPA kills it. I got in OOS with a 3.2 GPA. However I've taken about 20 Honors & AP courses. I think your lack of higher classes pretty much annihilates your application.

Oh & I just noticed your class rank. How are you in the top 50%? I'm in the top 15%

i was planning on applying for DGS. and there are only 183 in my class, and im at 103, but i should 'up' my rank before the end of the semester. i've already registered for classes for my senior year and i still won't have honors classes. is a mediocre freshman year really going to kill my chances THAT much?

I know senioritis really kicks in your last year of highschool but like everyone said, I think the lack of challenging courses is a big killer to your application.

Also, I'm curious. Does your school do weighted GPA's? And if yes, do they rank based on weighted or unweighted?

... actually UIUC do auto-admit people so if they just look at scores & gpa, they may not even take into account your lack of difficult classes. however that means you probably either have to raise your scores or your gpa. I was auto-admitted with a 3.2 but I scored 2170 on the SAT (roughly a 32 on the ACT).
