Not exactly sure what my recs will look like, but my counsellor likes me as do two of the teachers who I want to ask for recommendations. But, question. If the teachers you get your recs from like you as a student (rate you best in career for academic achievement/promise, etc) but dont seem to like you as much as a person (I think I'm good for emotional maturity, integrity, stuff like that.. But not so sure about like "sense of humor" or anything... It was on a rec for a summer program I got from one of my teachers), will that be really significant? As in will it look bad?? :/

Please chance me for..

Stanford
Columbia
UPenn
Brown
Cornell
Princeton
UC Berkely
NYU
UChicago
UCLA

I know my extra curriculars are a lil bad. I'm hoping to use this summer to either get into a good summer program.. Or if I don't get into a good summer program anywhere I'm going to work at the YMCA as a camp counsellor (leadership?)

Besides UCLA, these schools are going to be reaches.

Stanford, Columbia, UPenn, Brown, Cornell, Princeton, and UChicago are among the top 12-15 schools out there, and they're not going to jump without EC's. GPA and SATs are not spectacular to possibly make up for that.

I hate to be harsh, but these schools are among the best in the world and you may not stick out from a stack of applicants.

Yea I'm thinking as much :/

What would count as a spectacular GPA/SATs? 2300+ mark for the SATs? Not much I can do about the GPA anyways.

Do you think a nice essay or short answer or two would help at all??

I actually think you have a good shot at Cornell, even without great ECs. My stats were comparable to yours (SAT:2240, SAT2:730+690, 4.1 GPA) and I didnt have any ECs that would make me stand out from the rest of the applicant pool, but I still got accepted into Cornell! I haven't heard back yet from any other schools but Ill probably wind up at Cornell b/c I love it - most down to earth ivy. So I hope that my story brightens your outlook a little bit. Just keep working hard in school and it will pay dividends come college decision time. I think the best way to stand out is to write an original supplemental essay for each school that is truly different from what the colleges usually see, but what do i know?

Cornell does seem a lil less OMG IVY than the others doesn't it?? I'm just not sure about coldness of Ithaca winters and the lack of stuff to do there haha.

What other schools have you applied to? I'm interested in how you did heh. Best of luck that! :D

lol basically any ivy you go to will be cold in the winter, Cornell is definitely one of the colder ones though. And as for the "lack of stuff to do there", Ithaca is a good college town and lake cayuga is amazing. Plus from my experiences visiting Cornell the people were really cool and one of my close friends who goes there says between schoolwork, partying, going to shows on campus, and extracurriculars, there isnt enough time to even sit down and think about getting bored lol.

I applied to Cornell, Dartmouth, Lafayette, Harvard, Villanova, Duke, U of Delaware

So far Ive been accepted to Cornell, Villanova and Lafayette (with Marquis Scholarship)
No rejections yet
Ill keep you posted on how i do with all of the other schools, that might give you an idea of where to apply and what to expect next yr.
