Chances?

Hey guys,

I am currently a Junior at a very competitive private school in Florida. I was just wondering as to if anybody could give me some input as to whether or not I have a legitimate shot? I am hoping to go for Business/Management.

ACT - 29, and taking again in June. Hoping for a 31 or so.
SAT - Took the May SAT and am still waiting on those results. I think I did very well (1300+ hopefully!).

-Freshman Year GPA: 3.33 UW/3.33 W (No Honors/AP)
-Sophomore Year GPA: 3.40 UW/3.40 W (No Honors/AP)
-Junior Year GPA (so far): 3.18 UW/3.40ish W (3 Honors/No AP)
-Senior Year GPA: TBD (2 Honors/1 AP)

School does not release rankings.

Essays should be very good, being as I am a good writer. Recs also very good.

Extra Curricular Activities:
- Debate Team (3 years)
- Key Club (3 years)
- Young Democrats Club (1 year)
- Young Republicans Club (3 years... I joined BOTH my Sophomore year to see which one I preferred, before giving the nod to the Y.R.)
- Newspaper (1 year)
- 140 hours of community service
- Treasurer of 11th grade class
- Treasurer of the school for next year
- Internship at local stock brokerage firm

Other things:
-Attended a summer study at University of Colorado at Boulder in the summer before Junior Year.
-Come from a broken home -- Divorced parents. I've been told by a few people to play this card.
-National Society of High School Scholars
-Went on an Outward Bound excursion for a month the summer before my Freshman year.
-Dean’s List in Fall ’06, Fall ’07, and Spring ’07.
-I run a business online buying and selling baseball cards. I started with $500 in 2004 and am up to over $15,000 in inventory. I hope to make it to $20,000 and donate it for Cancer research, a subject very near and dear to me. I've had too many friends and relatives die of this disease.
-I am spending this summer in Tanzania, helping in a few villages with building schools, teaching the children, and helping out.

IU does not focus on recommendations or essays. Divorced parents won't come into play. Lots of students have divorced parents. The main criteria are GPA, class rank, and test scores.

Admission Standards: Future Freshmen: Office of Admissions: IU Bloomington

Apply early and you should be fine. Too bad the GPA isn't higher. Your ACT scores would make you eligible for a scholarship.

royally screwed... not only will you get into IU with passing colors.. but they will probably give you a scholarship.... dnt sweat it man.. why do u wanna go to IU so much?

Do what my son did: Apply the first day the applications are accepted! Request your test scores to be sent this summer. Request HS transcripts to be sent as soon as you send in your application; pay for UPS shipping. Between now and then if you can visit the school, do so. Meet individually with admissions and someone in your choice of major. If IU visits your school request a private meeting. Then you can put these contacts onto your application. My son was accepted as soon as the first letters were sent out, with a scholarship. Not very many people understand that the scholarship money is passed out from day one. If you qualify for the money, you will get it as long as they still have it.
By October my son was admitted, Scholarship money in hand, accepted into Global Villages, and applied for Direct Admit. Approval for that came after the new year.

APPLY EARLY!!!!!!!!!!

You'll definitely get into IU no doubt, that is not the issue. However, if you can be a direct admit to Kelley it would save you so much effort and stress! And your ACT is high enough to make you a direct admit but your GPA is a little lower. Are you in the top 10% of your class? If not then, I highly suggest you work really really hard senior year and take lots of weighted classes to boost that GPA and bring up your cumulative. If you can get your cumulative up to a 3.5 (I think it's still a 3.5, not sure if it went up yet) then you will be offered direct admission (even if it's senior year! One of my friends had a 3.4, but then after graduating her cumulative went upto a 3.5 and they then offered her direct admission to Kelley)! And even if you get a 3.4 and a 29, it'd be worth appealing for direct admission I'd say.

And also like everyone is saying, it's always best to apply as early as possible because IU has rolling admissions.

Definitely apply early and try to bring that GPA up. The test scores are good, but you really want a GPA over 3.5 UW.

Currently you need a 3.6 UW for direct admit right?

Sorry if I may be stealing the topic, but lets say that when I apply to Indiana I have 3.5 UW, yet after first semester senior year my GPA is a 3.6 UW? Would sending a midyear report make me a direct admit then Thanks

EDIT: Whoops sorry, forgot to read what barren_field said. Thanks!
