My uncle is an alumnus.

The teacher writing my recommendation is also an alumna.

Do I have a shot??

To myself, I seem very under-qualified. --Just wanted to know if that's the outside view too. However, Northwestern is my dream college and first choice. I have connections, but my test scores are on the low end of the spectrum. I just really don't know. Help?

Yes, I would advise you to bring the ACT score up. Maybe to 32-33, and if that's not possible, then go as high as you can. You could also try the SAT in October after studying for it over the summer. And yes, applying early would be your best bet.

As mentioned above, a higher ACT score would help.

What is your ranking, if any?
Also, what kinds of kids get into Northwestern from your high school? Your school's history of acceptances (competitiveness) will give you a better idea.

-rank is top ten percent

-last year two people from my high school got in. --one was the valedictorian (now at wash u) and the other was a kid like me

-no one applied this year. however, it's a pretty competitive high school. we have kids going to stanford, wash u, and mit.
