Chances???

What are my chances at getting into Colby? I visited this past fall and I really liked it but i Have no idea if I'd get in or not.

In terms of "standing out", I've definitely spent a lot of time in high school studying global human rights...i'm doing an independent study on it, ive done conferences about it, and i have a huge volunteer job with a biiig national anti-genocide coalition. its something im really passionate about, and I hope to emphasize that in my app...its probably not apparent from this list (sorry its long, you dont have to read the whole thing i know its boring!) but i know its something that my essays and college recs will all mention a lot

**My GPA is lower than one would expect of a student applying to top-tier schools, but that is because my school is incredibly difficult and has absolutely no grade inflation. The GPAs of accepted students from my school are always lower than the average accepted GPA of the colleges because colleges know how rigorous my school is.

anyone? please? :)

I think you have very good chances, I would recommend you do early decision.
Your human rights activities are a big plus which show focus and passion. Make sure to interview. Best of luck!

I'm with momofdd on the interview. My S, who will be attending Colby in the fall, was not able to schedule an interview (no availability for the day we visited) but we went ahead and he wrote about his visit, mentioned the name of the guide, etc. on his "Why Colby?" essay. He also mentioned he wanted to have an interview, but could not get a slot.

Here's a link to what Dory Streett, a Colby admissions officer suggested in her blog on what Colby is looking for. This is worth reading; my son followed her advice and got in regular decision. His stats are similar to yours, no sports activities, very focused ECs and he has national and state writing awards. I think you have a very good shot, and ED will help.

Best of luck.

Okay thanks! I don't think I will be applying early decision but I'm hoping to get in regular decision if I am deferred or rejected from my ED school.
I got a 740 on my Lit SAT II and plan on taking another subject or two in the fall

anyone else have any thoughts? thanks so much!

i think you are good at social science. I think you should get SAT US history .If you dont like this subject, i would like to recommend SAT MATh 2C . I studied math 2C in a couple of weeks and got 800. So i think SAT Math quite easy 'cos i am not a genius in Math , for sure.

I have very simialar stats (3.5, 1410/2090) and got in regular last year. Whats your ED school?
