Chances

Any input on my chances for admission are appreciated!

My gpa after this year will be a 3.87, possibly a 3.9 (weighted, 3.7 unweighted). My current scores are the following: math 660 writing: 690 and reading: 670.
I am a Native American student from Virginia.
I take all IB core classes except for math which is AP. I go to a large public school.
I am extremely involved in DECA, competing internationally twice and placing top ten. I also compete in FBLA, placing at district and state competition this year. I run cross country and track. National Honor Society, French Honor Society, and National English Honor Society. I work part time and participate in Co-Op. I will be participating in a summer program for college-bound Native Americans this summer. I expect pretty good teacher recs from junior year teachers.

Thanks so much for any feedback

you'll get in. i'd be very surprised if you didn't.

I don't see what being a Native American has to do with it but, yeah I think you have a good shot at admission.

I mean was it a challeng being a Native American? Sorry, I just don't get it........................ I mean my nationality is Irish and I don't think they put any emphasis on that when I applied. I think their should be more Irish students on campus! My Italian friend got waitlisted and that really sucked! You get my drift, no?

Peace.

Pedsox

I think you're in, even if you were white.

pedsox, being a Native American is more beneficial than being black in college apps I think.

Agreed. You've got a very good shot.

Soccerguy, How come? I mean, unless they grew up on a reservation. I reply with all due respect to you because you are very helpful and encouraging on this message board. I just think sometimes the old URM is slipped in for no reason, other than a possible hook.

It's just the way those things work. They're looking for diversity for their incoming class, and I think the number of Native Americans applying who "grew up on a reservation" is pretty small.

pedsox... Personally I don't think race should matter at all in college admissions, and any "bumps" should be given based on socioeconomic reasons. I don't think a black kid who has 2 lawyers for parents provides any more diversity than a white kid who has 2 lawyers for parents, but that's not the way schools look at it. As long as schools try really hard to recruit URMs (defined as not white or asian) it will continue to play a role, whether we agree with this process or not.

Thanks for all of the input!
I only put my ethnicity in the thread because after reading many "chances'' posts, it seemed like basic information to include
