Applying for Spring 08 as a FL community college Transfer student
Accounting major
GPA: 3.8
GPA for accounting classes:4.0
I don't have any extra curricular activities because I work full time at a bank if that helps any.

Will they look at my high school transcripts at all?

Thanks!

Sorry I forgot to add I will have an AA in accounting and therefore will be applying as a junior.

I think you have a great shot at being admitted as a transfer student to William and Mary. Great job, by the way! Call admissions and express your sincere interest and ask them about how much your hs transcripts play into their decision. You have a proven community college record in a difficult curriculum. I would be surprised if you were not admitted.

Best of luck,

I called to university today and they told me that they only accept 5 students into the Mason school of business for transfer :(. I am not sure if she knew what she was talking about though. Does anyone know if this is true? It sounds a bit low to me.

I am in the Mason School of Business. I believe that they admit 150 students a year. I could be wrong, though that figure stands out to me. So, why can't you be one of the 5 that they accept? I do know a friend who transferred from Washington and Lee to William and Mary to study business. They gave him a coveted spot because of his stellar GPA, but he had to take a couple of classes that were required. He was admitted to W&M for the Fall and then Mason in the Spring after he met the requirements. Don't give up. Give it a shot.

Also James Madison has a very good business school. Really. It's a much larger school than W&M but a solid, public, second tier Virginia school.

I think the adcom you spoke with today was right. I am sure they only admit a small number of transfers. Admission to Mason is competitive and they only have a certain number of spots. I didn't realize you were applying to the business school. You'll rock wherever you land.

Best of luck.

Hi,

I think you sound like a great candidate; may I suggest looking 50 or 60 miles up the road and checking out the University of Richmond? I would not pin my hopes on W&M if they only admit a few transfers, so apply to a few other schools, but again -- give W&M a shot.

W&M only admitted 5 transfers to the business school?! I don't think that's right, but I don't really have any data that says otherwise... so...

I do know one girl who was admitted as a transfer from a community college to W&M biz school. Her GPA wasn't as high yours but she was in-state...

Either way, I think you should apply!
