Chances?

This is a re-post from the Chances forum, but I thought you guys could help me out a little more:

GPA:
Roughly 3.4 cumulative (I missed NHS by a few points).

SAT:
600 Critical Reading (I guess this is okay, but I should be able to do a little better next time).
570 Math (This is a bit low for SUNY Binghamton, I know. I will try hard to get into the 600s on the next test).
560 Writing (I'm definitely a better writer than this. It wasn't so much the essay as it was the other sections. I'm sure I can do better).

ECs:
Varsity Baseball, 9th/10th/11th/12th
Princeton Model Congress, 10th/12th
Chess Club, 12th
International Club, 12th
Mock Trial, 12th
SADD, 12th
School Newspaper, 12th

College/AP classes:
AP European History (2. I know, I know. I slacked off way too much). 10th
College Composition and Literature (through Westchester Community College) 11th Grade
College Spanish (through Westchester Community College) 11th
College Statistics (through Westerchester Community College) 12th
AP Biology (I will try as hard as I can to get 3+). 12th
AP English (I will try as hard as I can to get 3+). 12th
College Italian (through Westchester Community College) 12th

I definitely should have tried harder throughout high school. Would a good essay help me out a lot? I'm confident that I can write a solid one.

I'm Guyanese, which is sort of Indian, but not really.

In addition, I'm also looking at SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Stony Brook and a few other private schools (i.e. Fordham) in NY. I'd really love to be able to get into SUNY Binghamton, though.

I'm thinking of majoring in accounting or philosophy (if I choose to pursue a career in law).

Would applying ED help me out any?

What are my chances?

i can't find stats for the current freshman class, but here are stats for last year's: Binghamton University Admissions - Premier Public University

and binghamton has been getting increasingly difficult to get in to: http://admissions.binghamton.edu/measureofexcellence.pdf

add to that the fact that for the current freshman class, they ended up with many more students accepting offers of admission than they expected, and i think it reasonable to expect admission to be even tighter for the coming year.

so you compare you stats with those and reach you own conclusion. also look back at threads from this forum from april when decisions were coming out and see how many kids who thought they'd get in didn't. (also look at stats of those who did get in.)

binghamton doesn't offer early decision, just early action.

Ouch. I guess my chances are slim.

My brother had a worse GPA than you did and slightly higher SATs than you have and he got in (and is going). Apply early action. It'll help out your chances and it'll show that you have a significant interest in going there.

However, I know that in my high school's graduating class of 2008, the person ranked 7th in class, 2000+ SATs, varsity sports all 4 years of school, captain for 2 years, in all of our Honor Societies, etc was deferred during early action (but was later admitted).

Well first of all, they don't count the writing second of the SATs. I think if you take them and get over a 600/620 on the other two sections, and keep up your grades you could stand a chance. Just apply EA so they know that you're really interested. It's only going to become more and more competitive this year.
