I worked my ass off in high school and I want my hard work to pay off, and Villonova seems like the right school for me. How will my SAT situation effect my chances?

also, is villanova early decision?

Nova is EA, but your SAT scores will eliminate all chances at getting in (unfortunately). I would recommend trying the ACT as well, but here is the 50% range...

SAT 50% 1360-1450/1600
ACT 50% 31-33

i know but im saying what if I apply, take my SAT's, and send it to them afterwards? how negatively will that affect me?

I'm not sure what you mean, but you would have to check with them to see what the latest deadline for taking SATs/ACTs is in order to apply EA. Because if the deadline was sept, then they probably wouldn't allow it.

Your scores are well below the range for an accepted student at Villanova. Jckund is correct. Unless you are a recruited athlete, legacy or have a distinct hook, your SATs are below the "typical" accepted student range. Nova only takes kids who are at the top EA. My daughter graduated in 05 and she applied EA...she was deferred soley on her verbal test score. She was in the top 4 % of her class with 5 APs (and that was 8 years ago). My advice to you would be to retake the SATs or try the ACTs and apply regular decision if your scores improve. My son is a freshman there and he took the ACTs in December and he was fine.

thanks a lot guys i appreciate your honesty

Sorry, but scores are much too low.

meadesport thanks for rubbing it in my face

How are all of your courses weighted? Were they ALL APs? Otherwise it seems like grade inflation. Think about it this way you need at least a 1300/1600 to even be competitive for regular decision. If you can bring your SATs up to that you may have a shot. Otherwise, go on collegeboard.com and find schools similar to Villanova that match your scores.

Yeah wait, how do you have a 94/100 GPA (A) and are ranked 152/712?

they werent all AP's, I only took a few AP classes actually, but they were all weighted courses. the 94/100 is my weighted gpa....i guess i should have mentioned that. and thats why im ranked 152/710.

im confused... so you have weighted classes that are regular level?

define "regular level"

not honors/AP courses... unless there is another type at your school...

Supername, it looks like you fall in the top 25% of your class. That is what it is.....how you got there, only you know. This is a chance thread, not an "argument" thread. Depending on how competitive your high school is,( and ours is one of the best in western PA), Villanova might take you based on your class rank alone. HOWEVER, if you add your SAT scores, which Villanova uses for admission, you become not competitive. There were kids at my Ss high school last year who were in the TOP 4% of the class, with 1250/1600 on their SATs, who were waitlisted. I also know that my S's best friend was in the top 25% of the class with a 31 ACT who was also waitlisted at Nova, but was offered admission to Colgate. There is a girl from my S's high school who was in the top 25% who is attending, but her test scores were very high and she had quite the list of ECs. It is a very complicated process and quite frankly can appear somewhat random. The band might need a tuba player, who knows. But, in general, Villanova has become EXTREMELY competitive and for serious consideration, you need great grades, great test scores and be well rounded. Kids who are attending now also got into NYU, Boston College, Colgate, Vandy, Lehigh, Richmond, etc. Look at last year's CC thread on the stats of last year's admitted students to get an idea of where you need to be. Study hard for those October tests!!! If you decide to apply regular decision, you might want to consider taking the ACTs in December when football is over. Nova will accept those scores until January's application date.

thank you so much twokidsatvu

Don't fret, I got a 1080/1600 on my SATs and i'm here =]

what were your extracurriculars/GPA/class rank? and how much do extracurriculars matter?

nova cares A LOT about ECs/community service...

Nova does care about EC's and Community Service--as it is an Augustinian institution. You can go on the Nova website to see in descending order what is the most important. If I remember correctly, your grades and where you stand in your class is very important, as well as your test scores. Then on the next level comes EC and community service and your essay. And those can make you stand out in a sea of over 15,000 applicants. We heard from a professor at the business school last year that they will not even look at your application if you don't have a 3.75 GPA (UW). If you are sports recruit..etc, have a hook or whatever it is called....I think you have some slack. It's getting very difficult to get into Villanova.
