so i'm last minute deciding to apply to a more competitive college, probably either northwestern or columbia, as a reach, since i recently did well on my SAT's.
chances?

SATI:
1st time cr 610 m 640 w 790 essay 10
2nd time cr 640 m 720 w 780 essay 10
3rd time cr 690 m730 w 740 essay 10

1420 or 2210 combined. 1420 or 2160 single.

SATII:
math2 690
chem 630
spanish 560

gpa is a 4.02, with AP weighted, honors from 11th/12th grade weighted .25.
i don't know if they recalculate or what. it usually ends up higher for schools that don't count gym, or weight all honors courses.
i don't know what it is unweighted, i would guess between a 3.7 and 3.8.

AP tests:
calc AB 5
physics c mech. 4
english lang 4

taking calc BC, stat, and spanish lang this year

national merit commended
ap scholar

weak ecs,
spanish national honors society 11th/12th
art literary magazine 10th
church youth group 9th/10th
jazz ensemble 9th
math tutor 4-5 hours per week 10th
cashier job 16-22 hours per week 11th/12th (but not summer)
babysitting job 3 hours per week 12th

i'm an ED applicant too so you might not take me as seriously but i've done alot of research on NU, talked with people who went to NU from my school about their experience and their credentials, and have talked with college counselors about NU.

So here is my view:

In summary, you are in a line where admission officers won't say "absolutely yes" nor "no way".

Your SAT scores are within the NU's average although your SAT IIs score could slightly hurt you.

As for your gpa, it is hard to say because every school does theirs differently. In my school a 4.0 weighted gpa corresponds to a 3.5 unweighted, which is a bit low but ok nonetheless.

EC is decent...i didn't see any leadership positions or anything but you probably just didn't write it in the post.

I'm in a similar boat with you, being on the line, but the fact that we both are applying ED should bolster our chances significantly. Also, for those on the line, essays are essentials. This is where we can make a huge difference in our acceptance so work on that essay and short question and you should have a good reach for NU.

Your stats/EC level is very similar to mine and I'm a Northwestern student right now. I'm not totally sure about the GPA because my GPA was technically "unweighted" but at the same time it was curved and I had a 3.95 UW GPA. I don't think it's that much a difference though.
