What's the likelihood of acceptance for me? Thanks.

Dude, valedictorian, (kind of), with a respectable standardized test score, good subject test scores, and athleticism. That coupled with the fact that you happen to be from South Dakota(schools like to collect the states…)- yeah, I think you have a pretty good chance.

how good is pretty good in terms of percent chance?

FYI- Percent chances are really inaccurate.

If I were to take a stab at it, I’d say around a 60% shot.

60%? That’s it? He has a perfect 4.0 UW, is Valedictorian, high SAT II’s, is from South Dakota of all places, and he’s applying to Engineering so the fact that his Reading/English scores are not too high shouldn’t matter, right? I don’t know, just my guess. If he’s got a 60% shot, then I’m screwed :(

If you’re going to play with percentages, know that ED applicants have about double the chances of a RD applicant. Stats do play a factor though…

star- it’s cornell. 60% is a really high estimate. Nobody knows what happens in admissions. To say someone has over a certain % is not being realistic. In my mind I have little doubt that they won’t accept the OP. But I can’t just throw down that he has a 95% chance just because that’s what it seems like. there’s a lot that we don’t know about that goes on in admissions, and when you deal with a school this competitive, nobody is safe from being rejected.

cornell- I see what your saying, but that stat is on a whole, not the individual. If you were to apply that to the OP, if he was applying ED his chance would be 120%. ED certainly does help a person’s application, but it does not stamp admit on it. This is why I hate bringing up numbers; they lack credibility!

“To say someone has over a certain % is not being realistic.” But isn’t that what you just did? I don’t know. Anyway we’re not admissions so we have no clue. I usually don’t chance people because I know nothing, but when I saw your comment on this thread I was like omg…haha I’m screwed.

Engineering RD? 75 percent.

star- i know i did it, but I said i hate doing it, lol. I’d rather say, “really strong chances”, because then I can think the OP has a 95% chance without having to take ivy admissions into account. and don’t say you are screwed!!
