any thoughts?

Your chances RD would have been very iffy. As you know, your SATs are low for Tufts.
Applying ED makes them a little better. You've got a shot.
Good luck.

The SATs are pretty important at Tufts, but not as important as your performance in high school, with the inquiry being how hard were the courses you took relative to the most difficult courses offered at your school and how well did you do in those courses.

ok well ive taken the hardest courses except i didnt take ap history soph or jnr years. but all my science and math classes (my forte) ive taken all honors and ap, and have gotten all a's in those classes, only a few b's in ap english courses. also, its a little late now, but would submitting the optional essay hurt at all? (i designed some sort of hybrid tree, and looking back it looks a little silly now).

Maybe you can take the SATs again and work specifically on writing and critical reading. You can definitely get your score up if you want to work for it. This will show initiative and make you a stronger, and perhaps a more competitive candidate.

well I hope so. And Dan, or anyone else, do you know this year's stats of how many ed1 applicants were deferred compared to rejected? I was just wondering. Also, are stats available for how many deferred students were eventually accepted last year?

I would agree that you should try to bump up your reading and writing SAT scores if possible. I think decent SATs and a good essay were the only thing that got me into Tufts (this was a few years ago, though). Nothing else about my application was great, and in fact much of it was subpar. My HS gpa was something like 3.3, I was in the top 20% of my class, and I didn't really have any extra curricular activities...so, yeah, study up a bit and try again.
