Chances?

Hello! I applied to CAS for early decision and intend to major in Health & Societies, concentrating in health policy. I am sort of regretting because the early decision acceptance rate for the Nursing School seems to be about 80%. Oh well, too late now T^T If I DO get accepted, though, I am thinking of doing dual degrees at the Nursing School and the College

Asian Male (International Student, South Korea)
Competitive private high school. Was once mentioned in the Wall Street Journal for sending many grads to Ivy League schools.

Weighted GPA: 4.18. Decent but not stellar compared to others.
Took 3 classes at a university, but unluckily the Korean high school system doesn't allow the courses to be included in my transcript. Could've boosted my GPA T^T

SAT: 2290 (CR 770 Math 770 WR 750) OMG Am I really an Asian male?

Essays:
Commonapp long essay: 4/5.
Commonapp short answer:4.5/5. Wrote about translation. Unconventional.
Why Penn: 5/5.
My interviewer, who used to work in the admissions office at Penn, said the essay was great. My only hope lol
Which Professor: 3.5/5.

Recs:
Waived my rights, but teachers write regular reports on their opinions on our progress, so I think I can see the general picture.
Counselor: generic I guess...
Teacher 1: 4.5/5.
Teacher 2: 4/5

Extra recs:
I got two supplementary recommendation letters from professors at Penn from whom I took classes. I guess the letters are generic. Got good grades though.

Interview: It went nicely, but interviews don't really count, do they?

For CAS, i’d say things look great. Good luck man

Are you applying for financial aid?

did u ever get to read those supplemental rec letters from the Penn profs? if so, how are they? length-wise AND content-wise?

btw, i think u stand a pretty good chance there. good luck. good luck to us all.

skyykh> no, I am a non-financial aid candidate. Applying FA as an international student is mad, isn’t it?
yournamehere> no I didn’t, or coudn’t; one professor hand-delivered the letter to the office, and I asked the other professor to seal the envelope.

may the force be with us all :)

your chances are pretty good (in fact, you seem to be rather similar to me: 800 Math II 800 Chem, though I managed a 2340 SAT :stuck_out_tongue: and interest in premed with good volunteering and research background and my GPA is also good but not top notch = 4.19)…I really do hope you get in b/c if you don’t then my chances are low too haha…

nj> our stats look similar. agreed. hope we both get in :stuck_out_tongue: but I’m not doing premed though.
only 1 day and 17 hours left. OMG

The translation stuff is pretty unique. You obviously have a great shot, but unfortunately nothing is definite.

gad, have you decided what you’re doing about finding out the decision? Just waiting until 6am?
My host sister said maybe I should just sleep all afternoon tomorrow so that if i stay up waiting for the decision, I won’t be too tired the next day (sooo busy Saturday, ugh).
I hate being on the other side of the world for this decision!! 5am sucks…

scribbler> think I’ll just go to bed and wake up at five, and call the admissions office and explain how I can’t access the Internet. then I’ll ask them to tell me the result.
I do not know what to do when I stay up all night and wait for the decision. The electricity goes out at 2:00 A.M. I obviously have nothing to do in between. lol My school sucks kkkk

Er, still pretty sure they won’t tell you over the phone…but you can try, I guess.

Wait, your electricity goes out at 2, as in your can’t turn your lights on?? (what about alarm clocks haha?!)

Alarm clocks run by batteries, don’t they?
I believe I can still depend on my alarm clock.

As for finding out the result… I’ve seen someone finding out his result via phone at Harvard, so I guess that is not impossible.
