what are my odds?

Does your so called top school in the nation offer a lot of AP's? You took only 2? And your unweighted gpa is a touch light for Fordham.....HOWEVER, they look more deeply into the toughness of your curriculum (did you take easy classes? Or really tough ones and always stepped up to the challenge?). What is your weighted gpa?

Otherwise, you have good ACT and SATII scores, looks like a lot of balance and "interesting" extra curriculars. They undoubtedly know your school and have students who attend Fordham from there now.

I would say you are probably solid. Not a slam dunk, but solid. EA or RD?

Good luck. Its a fabulous school and a lot of fun.

nocousin,

fordham should pay you.

The APs i took were psych and AP euro. I did however take the APUS test and did pretty well on it, having not covered half of the year. I have not taken the hardest classes that they offer, but normal classes at my school are the equivalent of IB classes at some public schools. My weighted GPA is 3.5. I should also mention that spanish 6 is not an AP course, however it is nearly the same curriculum as the AP literature course. It does have an honors designation.
I applied EA with the VIP application.

Solid stats against last years Class Profile
Since you're from the Tri-State area, I assume FU is familiar with the rigors of your school, so a slightly below average GPA should not be an issue.

Frankly, your a bit light on community service compared to most applicants I've seen but your success in other EC's shows well. If you wrote a great essay I'd say chances are good.

Stephen: Do I cheerlead for Fordham? Yep. For good reason. Since we (me and my spouse) are paying the lions share of the "freight" for my D to attend there, we have a "vested" interest in spreading the Gospel. We also want to help kids who have a genuine interest in attending Fordham. And having gone through once already (with two more kids coming along very quickly) the grueling admissions process, we feel compelled to help families and students navigate that process as smoothly as possible. Finally, when I was first "turned on" to CC, it was a different place. It was very top heavy with Ivy League threads and some very elitist types. I made it my mission to help kids looking primarily at second tier schools, regardless of their stats or socio-economic background. Not being New Yorkers, we know that Fordham is often overlooked and off the radar screen for students and families considering going to school in New York and thus need some help in getting the word out. If that annoys you, I am sorry. But people need to know the good news about Fordham, what it offers etc. And yes, I have an agenda of getting more kids from areas outside the immediate tri-state area to apply to Fordham, as I firmly believe that is an integral part of helping Fr. McShane and the Trustees reach their goal of making Fordham the best Catholic University in the United States by 2016. I don't know if they will get there as there is obviously very stiff competition from Holy Cross, BC, Georgetown and Notre Dame, not to mention some other Jesuit schools equally as committed to climbing the ladder of prominence and prestige.

If you did not mean your comment to be a swipe at me, but an applause for me, I thank you. But I do this (for now anyway) from my heart. Does Fordham need people in other regions to spread the news and help them recruit students? Yes. And in that light, perhaps other parents will pick up the mantle and assist me or replace me in years to come. They have record applications for 8 straight years, but in my opinion there is still too heavy a concentration in the immediate tri-state region. Nothing against those kids, but to spread their wings more, it benefits all.

nocousin

Don't apologize for cheering up Fordham - it is a great place. My D is there and she loves everything about it - Have a S going to Holy Cross next year - I only hope he likes it half as much!

I would make a wager that you're a fairly good candidate. However, I would nex mentioning "10 hours of community service per year." Unless you're doing an extravagant amount of community service, it shouldn't be mentioned. It makes (me, at least) wonder, why only ten in a year?
Your GPA could be a little higher too, but other than that I think you're a match.

nocousin, don't appolgoize at all! i was applauding you. you promote fordham so well (that you should be payed!)

Nocousin: I agree with you. I am a Holy Cross grad and promoter of top Jesuit colleges like HC and Fordham. It has always been a mystery to me why colleges like HC and Fordham are not more widely known. Fordham, in particular, has a great location and they are both some of the oldest colleges in the country with rich histories. I think part of it is the lack of national sports teams on television every week. I know that this has boosted BC in the past 30 years. Holy Cross suffers in part due to the overly religious sounding name.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to clarify the remark by Stephen. I wish Fordham WOULD pay me, because I would gladly go out to high schools and recruit for them!

1980: I fully agree that Holy Cross is a very good School and also suffers from the same circumstance as Fordham by being in shadow of well known Ivy League and other elite colleges. BC and Georgetown had sports successes to really bolster their names. In this day and age of seemingly endless financial scandals and unfettered and unlimited greed and hubris, it does seem to me that a solid Jesuit education (I am Jesuit educated as well) is not only helpful but very much needed in our society. I tend to be right of center, but I am disgusted and distraught at the state of affairs we are in as a nation.

Just this am, my daughter pinged me that a professor she has signed up for NEXT semester has already emailed her the syllabus and an extensive reading list for the Christmas Holidays.....its exhaustive! Mind you, this is an incredible course taught by a professor (Phd Columbia) who is well known and usually only for Juniors and Seniors, but she can handle it as a Sophomore. (Middle Eastern History-modern). People have no idea of the quality of education that is available at Fordham if they spend a few minutes to look at the course offerings and the amazing faculty employed there.

Its a blessing to be sure.

Thx. And Merry Christmas everyone and best of luck to all applicants.

Downhill: I think you will be fine. Of course, its not up to me. If you get in, come prepared to WORK! LOL.

thanks for the help guys, I just got my acceptance letter today. I'm very excited- Lincoln center guaranteed 4 years of housing

Congratulations! Welcome to the Fordham Family! Its a fabulous school, but come prepared to work hard!
