chances?

I have a 3.6 gpa (90 average) and am ranked 56 out of 376 in my class.
Ive been on the school's honor roll for all of the past 3 years and national honor society Junior and Senior year.
I am the head of one club and am involved in alot ton of community service.

I go to a school called Chaminade, its in Mineola, NY. Not to sound like a prick but the school I go to gets tons and tons of kids accepted every year.

I also have an NROTC scholarship (marine option), idk if that helps or not.

chaminade has a good reputation, i'm sure it has pretty good affiliations with fordham.

We'd need an ACT or SAT score to even guess at a chance, but since your school sends so many kids each year, I'd suggest you ask your college counseling rep about chances.

As you may have read on this site, as FU seeks to build a more national image, some of the traditional rules will change. Not sure this helps you, but something to keep in mind. An ACT>27 would go a long way for you.

oops yea my SATs are CR: 660 Math: 610 Writing: 590
1270 out of 1600
1860 out of 2400

Very likely IN at Fordham. Chaminade has "an express train" to Fordham. My D dates a Chaminade graduate. Fine young men.

Caveat: Fordham's scores are on the rise and they are reaching out to other geographical areas and thus the old "golden rule" of Chaminade boys all get into Fordham is no longer the case. But your gpa and scores are right at the 50th percentile for Fordham and barring something strange like a poor recommendation, you will be fine, it seems to me.

Know this: You write a lot of papers at Fordham. Its not a slacker school (though slackers do appear there..and pay the price.)

Where else did you apply?

I really only applied to military schools, VMI, Citadel, and USMMA but recently i decided I'd want to go to a normal private college before I headed off to the Marines.

I admire your willingness to serve our country in uniform. I know something about Citadel and VMI, and the Marines. Of course you know going to Fordham would be a totally different experience than a service academy or military college. NROTC would give you that constant connection with your intended career. A Jesuit education is something of considerable value, not to be lightly dismissed. Of course, going to VMI or Citadel does not obligate you to military service upon graduation but 95% of them do in fact go into military service. ROTC scholarships do obligate you, or you have to pay it back. So you have some decisions to make. If you are applying RD to all of the above, and not a binding ED application, then you have until the spring to decide what you really want to do.

Military life includes honor, integrity and an extreme sense of duty to your unit, your branch of service and your country. While it includes many proud moments in full dress uniform, and we see or read about stories involving heroism that bring tears to our eyes (one today in fact involving the Army Special Forces in Afghanistan where 10 Silver Stars were awarded at Ft. Bragg for one battle, the most ever for a single battle), you should know that military life is arduous, demanding, frustrating at times and often fraught with extreme danger, risk to life and limb, separation from loved ones, and living conditions (particularly in battle) which make "Survivor" look like Peter Pan. The "reality" of military life hits you like a 2X4 upside the back of the head as soon as you step off that bus onto the marching parade at boot camp or OCS school. In other words, with the praise and admiration of your family, friends and countrymen comes an awesome responsibility and even more difficult duties and lifestyle. Putting on the uniform of your country means something VERY serious. I commend you, but want you to know what is involved, if you don't already. God bless.

55% of VMI graduates commission at the end of 4 years. About 30% of Citadel grads commission.

This is a lot less than 95%.

I'm a vmi cadet so I know something about the 55% number.

Yeah, your SATs are a little lowish, but your gpa is definitely in the wheelhouse. I'd say you have a good chance of getting in but it's not a super safety. Probably a match.

BTW, read with good humor: (OMG Chaminade! I knew that sounded familiar, my dad went to St. Mary's in Manhasset, but we live in MD, so I couldn't place it at first.

...And then I remembered that one of his favorite songs to sing to me as a toddler was "Chaminade boys take bubble baths, do dah, do dah, they don't need stairs cause fairies can fly, oh dah do dah day." Haha, I didn't get it at the time.

NO hard feelings, though, just a wierd blast from the past. Like I said, I'm in MD, so I have no idea about the Chaminade boys and their bubble baths/lack therof.)

Just kidding, I'm sure you're cool, and the rotc thing is real dedication. I think you'd get in to FU, but one thing you need to watch for is how many (perhaps better scoring) kids in your class are also apping to Fordham. That helped to keep my brother out of BC.
