Interned at an accounting firm in the summer for the entire summer

Problem: During My junior year i experienced alot of medical issues and wasn't able to achieve my full potential thats why sats and gpa are down.

And i am a varisty Cross Country runner, Indoor track runner, And outdoor track member. The medical problem that i had was a heart problem ( Hypertension) and i was put on meds that affected me to from reaching my potential. My senior grades were good overall i had a 91 gpa

You are below the middle 50% SATs. UF GPA is around 4.0. Usually if you fall well below the averages your chance are not good.

I live in Navarre lol, did you go to NHS aka the worst HS ever?

You guys live in Navarre? haha
I was just out there today for a wedding (I live in Cantonment).

OP, I'm sorry to say it, but I don't think you have a very good shot. But I hope I'm wrong!

for my sake, i hope u have a good shot, but if what ppl have said on mine is true, and what some of these ppl have said, then you are gonna have a rough road to matriculation at UF.

thats mine for comparison.

yankeeboy

my daughter goes NHS

UF puts a lot of weight into your GPA. Last year, our of all of the applicants, something like 85% of those who had a GPA of 4.0+ were accepted.

would you guys think that it is better to go to a different school in florida and transfer to the university of florida

because i really want to go the university of florida and i currently go to hs in connecticut. I have family members who go to UF and a couple that graduated from there. I would do anything to get in. Please help

^ If you are really that desperate to go to UF, you could always go the community college route. It would be hard to get into UF as a transfer from some university, whether it's in Florida or not. However, transfers from Florida community colleges with A.A. degrees receive priority consideration(out of transfer applicants). So if you went to a Florida community college and maintained a high GPA, you might have a pretty good chance.

ya to bad though because i have family members who go to UF and i guess it was never meant to be. The stats that i gave above are unweighted and i have done alot of aps and honor classes. I just gave an estimation because my highschool doesn't use a 4.0 scale. My school uses a scale out of a 100. Right know i have a 85-86 gpa. So the gpa i listed above was not correct.

I have overcome more learning challenges compared to the average student. For example, during my freshman year of high school I was assigned to attend a learning center class three days a week because teachers determined that extra help with my homework and test-taking skills would be a benefit to me. By the end of my freshman year, however, a reevaluation revealed that I no longer required extra assistance. My diligence and sustained efforts to adopt the learning center’s problem solving strategies were successful and provided me with the valuable tools necessary to apply towards my studies. This just proves that when I encounter any difficult tasks, my hard work and determination will help me achieve concrete results.
Second, during my junior year, I faced certain medical challenges that impacted my academic life and temporarily deterred me from maximizing my potential both as a student and as an athlete. In October of 2007, my cardiologist advised me to cease all physical activity until

further notice because I had an abnormally enlarged heart and was diagnosed with pre-hypertension. As a result, I was not able to complete the cross-country season and was restricted to homebound activities. This was a difficult time for me. Nonetheless, my resilience and optimism helped me
maintain a positive outlook about my condition. For example, I focused my energy on other things including schoolwork and improving my second quarter grades. In March, my doctor gave the clearance allowing me to once again participate in physical activity. Despite having only a short amount of time to prepare for my cross-country season, I was able to improve my running times–a feat that I achieved exclusively through dedication and determination since I was committed to putting in extra time at the track to get myself back into shape. Although during my junior year I was dealing with the added stress placed on me by my unexpected medical crises, I remained hopeful and was able to stay focused towards my academic goals. After being cleared to run, I pursued my running goals with the same vigor as I demonstrated in the classroom. My secrets to overcoming any challenge, whether it was big or small, have been my focus, commitment and hard work.

1- Avg. SAT/ACT scores of enrollees.
2009 - 25% /75% Percentile = 1140-1360

2- % of enrollees in top 10% of high school class
(your GPA is the determinant of this rank)
2009 - avg GPA= 4.0

The further you fall below this norm the more your chances go down.
IMHO OOS students need to be closer to the 75% figures on both categories.

thanks i dont know wut my gpa is because my school doesn't do it out of a 4.0 it does it out of 100 and i have a gpa of an 85-86 unweighted.

OP,
use that for your essay. Seriously. My friend got in with mediocre stats but explained the reason why he got a low GPA.

what i said before that took 2 paragraphs that is what i used in my essay. What do you think

how would the university feel about personal or medical issues that ive had during highschool that prevented me to fulfill my potential

Honestly your SAT at 1080 and your GPA UW at 3.2 will hurt your chances. I will assume you are not a top 10% student from these stats.
Your essay although good may not even get read if they don't get past your SAT & GPA.

The advice you see here often is to apply to Santa Fe CC in Gainesville. If you have a decent GPA from there and have your AA you will more than likely be admitted into UF.
It has been known as the "backdoor" into UF. Not sure how long it will stay open as many want it slammed shut.

I will tell you that Accounting is one of, if not, the most competitive school to get into right now. They accept the least amount of students, and require the highest GPA out of all schools. For a transfer, they say if you don't have around a 3.8 with an AA, don't bother. Just some insight.
