very good. better than 50/50 i think b/c of high rank & SAT.

im just wondering... if my friend, who is ranked first in our class, is applying to cornell, but only has an 1880 (and we have similar ecs) who do you think would be more likely to get accepted?

you. but b/c he has val status he still has a good chance.

from what i've seen the valedictorian always studys their butt off but isn't necessarily the smarteest person. the smartest person will still have an extremely high rank, but maybe not first because they spend their life doing other things besides studying. I think this would come across to a college and positively effect you, so I think you would have a better chance. Our valedictorian's going to Penn State Abington, I'm 5 going to cornell and my friend's 7 going to MIT.

Whats your unweighted GPA, cornell doesn't look @ weighted?

Not that it matters, your stats are good you have a good chance.

Ceteras paribus I'd say you have a better chance. Averaging 630 per SAT section isn't too hot when you apply to cornell. You have high rank and good SATs. He has high(er), but not by much, rank and SATs on the low side of the average (for cornell, not the real world of college admissions). He is also, however, a good match for cornell in terms of stats and I would encourage him to apply there if he likes the school, he definitely has a good chance to get in too.

if you take out my first semester as a freshmen, i have an unweighted GPA of 4.0. If you include that semester, i have a 3.89
