Chances

Hello.
I am applying to Yale, which has been my dream school since...forever.
I have been studying in the US only for a year and a half, in fact I am from Italy. Since the school system is very different, I have found myself behind in math and science, which caused my SAT and ACT scores to be pretty low for IVY standards: 1780 and 25, respectively. My grades are though very good. I was at the top of my class in Italy and I currently have a GPA of 4.1. I am taking 4 AP courses this year, including English (and I am a foreign student). I am also very involved in my school, I am a Proctor, an editor for the newspaper, I am in the play and I do Community Service. My recommandations schould be good and I have an external recommandation from a former Yale Professor. I was wondering if considering my background (very few people from Italy study in America) my solid academic preparation, my activities and the disadvantage I was when I came here (I had a very crappy school system in my previous school) I have any chances to get in, besides my Standardized Tests. Did anyone of you get in with low test scores?? Thank you!!!

I'm sure its possible, but your scores are going to hurt you. Can you try to retake them one more time?

Impress with the essay : )

Well the only weak links in your chain could be ur SAT scores...but there's one thing...now that you've applied, the essays that you wrote might prove handy(if you spoke a bit on the emotional level)..well, best of luck to you...Im also in the need of a lot of luck!!

Everything looks good, but your SAT scores could use a bit of work. Will you have a chance to retake them again before decisions are made for Yale? I would aim to be at LEAST around 2100-2200.

Un compatriota! Definitely get your SATs up a bit - unpo' di preparazione e sarai a posto...
Good luck!
