chances?

I’m just wondering what my chances are for getting into Bates. I visited in the summer and I absolutely loved it. It is my first choice school, however I did not apply ED because of financial issues. I noted this in my essay though. I had an interview and it went extremely well, but I’m still stressing about my chances.

GPA: freshman and sophomore year- UW 3.8 W 4.1
junior year- UW 4.0 W 4.5

SAT II’s

Rank: top 10% (my guidance counselor sent a letter because my rank went up drastically. I’m now ranked ~1/272, however that is not on my transcript, just in the letter.)

I also took 2 college courses at wilkes univeristy:
Pschology (I got a 4.0)
Governments of the World (4.0 as well)

Course load- I took two out of the three AP’s that my school offers, pretty much the “hardest” courseload I could… even thought it’s not that difficult.

Senior year (with first quarter grades):
AP Spanish- A
Physics- A
Economics- A
Shakespeare and the Novel (I took on an extra elective)- A
Pre-Calc (dual enrollment)- 4.0

American Lit (dual enrollment, next semester)

AP grades:
euro- 3
us- 3

Not so great, but two I self studied for.

Essay: good.

Rec’s will also be very positive, except I’m not sure how good the quality of the writing will be. I’m getting one from on of the college professors I had during my summer courses. He’s head of the political science program and I want to major in political science.

you should be fine...I don't know where, but somewhere on the Bates board I posted mine, and we seem somewhat similar, and I got in...I only submitted my ACTs though, no APs (even though i took 3) or SATs, but you have a strong SAT score, so you'll be fine. Your recommendation sounds like it's coming from the right person, I would just have made sure your "Why Bates?" essay was good, but I'm sure it was :D
Good luck! did you apply ED II or just regular?

p.s. i'm sure your awards are fine, that's about what I had...and yay for tennis!!

I applied regular. I wanted tod o EDII, but my parents wouldn't let me because of financial reasons. I think my "Why Bates?" essay was strong, so hopefully they'll sense that it's my top choice even though I didn't do ED.

You've got impressive stats. SATs definitely give you an upper edge. Best of luck!

i'd be exceptionally surprised if you didn't get in.

Bates, and similarly selective colleges, can turn down applicants for wierd reasons sometimes. The key is to put in your best effort, stay confident and hope for the best! :)

thanks guys. I want to go to Bates so much. I love it there.

you should look for similar schools too, just as back-ups!

I applied to similar schools, because I know my shot at Bates is pretty much 50/50... if that. I love Maine and I really want to go to school there... unfortunately Bates is the only school in Maine I applied to. So I guess I can just hope.

I think you'll be perfectly fine, your credentials are stronger than mine were, and I got in.

You sound like you REALLY want to go to Bates, and I bet that you reflected that well in your essay  which along with your stellar SAT’s, amazing GPA, and interesting EC’s (and probably good rec) should make you an extremely strong candidate. I would be surprised if you didn’t get in. Keep us informed, and best of luck!
