Chances.....**

(I thought I'd try posting this in here, sorry if it's incredibly annoying.)

Okay, so I admit I used to find these chance threads very annoying and it seemed like everyone posting just wanted acknowledgment of their amazingness and were fishing for compliments, but I am so sick of waiting that I'm wondering if someone could chance me for Stanford......okay, here I go:

SAT I: 2200
GPA uw: 3.87
-I don't know rank, but I go to a competitive college prep school in St. Paul, Minnesota and have taken the most rigorous course load available and plan to take another math class this summer (which I noted in my "additional information" section).

Varsity sports:
Soccer - 4 years (all conference 3 years, captain senior year, top GPA on team - academic excellence award)
Basketball - 4 years (captain 2 years, all-conference 3 years, about 1,700 pts. in career - all-time leading scorer @ my school) -- if anyone here has any knowledge of walking onto the team (I know they are amazing, so I don't even know if this is an option) or of club/intramural opportunities, please let me know; I'm interested in continuing play in college.)
Track -4 years, various awards, all-conference 2 years, hold 1600m record (but just for girls haha).

EC:
Math Club (club leader 11, 12)
Science Club (leader 11, 12)
MOSAIC Diversity Club (leader 11,12)
Environmental Club (Leader 11,12)
Amnesty International
Tutors' Guild

300+ hours of community service (including service trips to Mexico and Tanzania, wrote about Tanzania for CommonApp essay)
-various projects on my reservation; raise money and awareness at my school

Jobs:
US Soccer certified referee - grade 8 (since 10th grade)
job at German Christmas store since beginning of 11th grade

Essays:
I really liked all of them. As I said, main one is about what I learned in Tanzania.
IV: my math teacher in 10th grade (who is now part of the Peace Corps in Tanzania)
Roommate: About MOSAIC and my being Native American and what I have learned from both and how I have shared this at my school.
Why Stanford?: I love this one...I felt like it was personal, but also showed that I had seriously researched Stanford and discovered it as a perfect fit.
<--If you want to read any of these, just PM me and give me some feedback.

Other Factors:
American Indian and quite involved with my tribe. I've spoken with Stanford's "liaison" to Native applicants quite a bit, developed a quite good relationship, I don't know if this helps at all, but I'm pretty sure she is on the adcom.

Chance me for these schools as well (if you want to):
-Washington University in St. Louis
-Duke
-Northwestern
-Vanderbilt

Stanford and WU are my top choices for sure. Also, do you think I have any chances at getting invites to any of these schools "multicultural weekends" or a likely letter? I dunno.....any input is appreciated! Wado!

It seems like you are a really strong applicant and have a good shot. Stanford has a great cultural center for Native Americans and you will like it a lot.

Thanks for the reply. I really hope to get an acceptance in April, but am also trying not to obsess over it; it is hard ;).

Anyway, yeah, I have heard of Stanford's Native community and must say it is one reason that I applied and it is one of my top choices. I have spoken with Adrienne Keene, the liaison to Native applicants, and she seems amazing and has told me a lot about the Native population on campus. I've seen the website and the opportunities are superb.

I know that I should not read too much into things, but when I sent in the Stanford University application follow-up (basically expanding on tribal affiliation, etc.), I included a note and this was Adrienne's reply:
"Hi ---,
Just letting you know that we have received your form, and thank you so much for the kind e-mail you included with it. The majority of the e-mails I receive are short, without punctuation, or in text speak (did u get my form? plz let me kno thx), so know that a little effort on your part went a long way—thank you!

Please let me know if you have any more questions about the process or the Native community on campus.

Best,

Adrienne "

What do you think this means?? haha, probably nothing, but I was really excited when I received it!

Also, I got into UW-Madison and was just announced as a recipient of the Chancellor's Scholarship (a full tuition scholarship program). I have no idea how competitive the program is, but I'm really excited about it!
