Chance Me Please!
Hi everybody,

I will finish my BS here in Italy next year and I want to move to US in order to take a MS in Aerospace Engineering.

Nationality: Italian (International)
Actually my GPA is 3.2.
GRE: on the simulation i scored 770Q

My choices are (in order):

Embry Riddle
Purdue
Texas Austin
Minn Twin Cities
Texas A&M
Virginia Tech
Iowa State
Illinois Tech (Armour)
Missouri S&T
West Virginia
Alabama (Huntsville)

Matches? Reaches? Safeties?

Help me please!

Matteo

There is a lot that goes into an application than the info you have given us. Internships? Research? Letters of rec? The rest of your GRE score? Competitiveness of your university?

Ok:

We can not do internship during bachelor here.
I will do a research thesis just before graduation.
The rest of the GRe is 450+770+4.0.
My university is La Sapienza of Rome, IT, common and well known for sure everywhere, it’s the largest in europe.

I realize it’s off topic, but how was La Sapienza? I’m interested in their Cinemaster grad program for after I get my BA in Film in a couple years. I like Rome itself, but don’t know much about the university.

Dunno about Cinema…
La Sapienza is the biggest University in Europe… We got more than 150,000 students in every possible area of interest.
For this reason is a very chaotic place, but has a very deep history.
Personally I prefer a small University taking care of every student but here it seems they accept everyone in order to make some (even few) money.
For example in Aero Engineering at the first year BSC everyone can be accepted, despite of his final score or GPA. The first day we were 360 students!
Now, after two year, near the end of the 3-years BSC, we are 120 only. Any contacts with professors can’t be realistic and I really find hard to obtain LOR’s.
I know for sure that Physics and Sciences are top rated in Europe and very well known all over the world.
Engineering too is very common.

Pay attention to the meaning of the word “Master” in Italy.
It’s not the US Master.

Comparison:

Bachelor - “Triennale” (Laurea degree after 3 years)
Master - “Specialistica” (2 years)
Postgrad - “Master” (but it’s affected by a hands on, lavorative focus)
Doctorate - “Dottorato”

So if you want to come back to us they will not equiparate your italian Master to a US Master.

Cheers,
