I am ending my junior year hopefully with a 3.9 if not with a 3.8. I will by the end of my senior year have taken 5 AP classes. I go to a very good high school with very high standards. I volunteer a lot and I am a president of a club at school. I participate in many school events. I run XC and track and have been in the state XC meet. what are my chances of getting into the Landscape Architecture or Urban and Regional planning program at Cal POly SLO

Architecture is an extremely competitive program,I would say a 2100+just to be safe.

I’d say shoot for a good SAT, around 2000. Unfortunately all that XC isn’t really going to help you out. I think there is one (maybe two?) questions about XC on the application.

Remember Cal Poly only looks at CR and Math on the SAT. 650-700 as a minimum on each, but preferably above 700.

Show interest in the major … do an internship or attend a summer program on architecture. I know that helped my daughter to get in. Take art classes. Cal Poly likes to see interest in your intended field of study … the rest is just a formula they use with grades (which they weight) and scores.

Where is your school? Location is also a factor and a growing one at that.

We are from out of state, so we were surprised (and thrilled) that she got accepted. It seems that only a small percentage are from out of state. Now just trying not to worry about California’s economic mess and budget cuts…

You wont be accepted into Landscape Architecture with anything less than a 4.2 in my opinion… You should be fine for City & Regional Planning, I would highly recommend applying for that. Good Luck
