Chances?

So I will be applying to UPENN ED this fall and it would help if you would gage my chances:

Basics: I am a gay, white non-hispanic male from New York. I go to a fairly respectable high school with a stable ivy acceptance rate (last year #12(in rank) got accepted into Brown, #11 to Columbia, #7 & and some other number to Yale and this year #s9 & 10 were accepted into UPENN and #s 5 & 6 to Harvard).

Academics: I have a 97 average for the three eighth grade classes that I got high school credit for, a 93 gpa in ninth grade (I slacked off that year :|), a 96 in tenth, and a 98 this year. I will be somewhere between 9 & 11 in the rank. I've taken the hardest courses my school offers (next year I will be taking Wind Ensemble, Health, Gym, Honors Physics, AP Environmental Science, AP Government and Politics, AP Literature and Composition, and AP Calculus). I'm going to be an English major and English has always been my best class (I have 100 average in my AP Language and Composition class this year), so that's good.

Testing: I took the SAT I in May and got a 2140 (CR: 690, Math: 710, Writing: 740). I will be re-taking it in October. I'm taking the Molecular Biology, Math I, and U.S. History SAT IIs this Saturday and the ACT on the 13th.

Extra-Curricular: My school has a prominent music program (there are three high school bands and the two upper ones have never recieved less than 1st place at any music competition and never earned less than a gold/gold at NYSSMA Majors. The Wind Ensemble was invited to play at the Beijing Olympics, but the school and the students couldn't afford to go). I've been in band since the forth grade. I play the saxophone and I have taught myself the trumpet, clarinet, and bassoon. I'm in the Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, and "Pep" Band. I have been selected for NYSCAME (all-county band) and the All-State honor band based on my performance at the NYSMMA solo festival. I am the senior treasurer of my school's chapter of the National Honor Society and the president and former executive board member of the Foreign Language Honor Society. I'm also secretary of the Math Club and member of the Quiz Bowl team. My school was selected to participate in The Challenge: Long Island (a cablevision high school trivia competition) and if we are invited again next year I will be on the team, so hopefully I have that chance. I also have community service: volunteering at a food pantry for three hours a week, cleaning the highway, tutoring, and Relay for Life

Your help is much appreciated.

It’s really ridiculous to ask to be chanced, esp. for Penn because the essays are crucial. Without them, you’re nothing. You could have said that you got a 2400, with 8 SATII 800s and 15 AP 5s and the answer would still be who knows. Write good essays, and then you’ve got a good chance. Applying ED is smart though. Good luck!!!

^actually if I saw someone with those stats I’m pretty sure I would think they were in. ;)

You should try to get your SAT up, especially CR if you want to be an english major. ECs seem OK if a little too music focused.

“white non-hispanic” - I know that’s the pc thing to say, but really…you can just say white and I’ll know you’re not hispanic.

KansasKid: Not true. That must be why you’re 2010. I have a friend who applied to MIT early and got rejected because he thought that given the fact that he had perfect SAT and SATII scores as well as 9 AP 5’s, he would be in. The app is ciritical!!! Without it, you’re just a machine.

“That must be why you’re 2010” - ??? explain please

My post was partly in jest, hence the wink…
