haha stupid Luis Castillo… only handed the Yankees another lost :(

^^ are you a yankees fan?

Wow, you have an amazing application, especially considering your circumstances. Don’t worry about awards or honors; they aren’t a very significant part of your application. Also, don’t bother sending in your ACT score, as your SAT is much better. I suggest retaking the SAT II Lit (or taking another SAT II that you feel comfortable with) and shooting for a 700+. Aside from that, I think you have a very good shot at getting in. You’ll get a full ride with a family income around $20,000 as well.

This is a very reasonable suggestion, and I might just do it. It would actually be cheaper for me to re-take the SAT II because then when I send my scores, I get free score reports (and a fee waiver for the test itself) so I won’t have to pay to send my SAT scores anywhere. On the other hand, I’ll probably miss the Yale deadline, but what can you do? I can take the October test. I’m sure I can get a 720 or 730 on Lit with preparation (I went pretty unprepared last time). I’m not sure if I should try to re-take Math Level 2, though. I’m not sure I’d do any better even with practice.

it doesnt matter. Rice will look at the better score, so take it if you feel like…

Just take Math II again, I mean Lit, almost everyone does bad, with Score-choice, just don’t send in Lit. You need at least two SAT IIs and I think you have a good chance with just sending Math II and US-His. You’ll be fine. Like I said earlier, its your essays and letter of recs that matter the most right now. You are a URM (it helps way more than it hurts-if it even hurts at all). Also you have a good financial aid at Rice. You can go to Rice pretty much free of tuition or cost (Rice’s financial aid policy)

i thought there wasnt any score choice any more?? or did they re implement it?

Score Choice for the SAT has been reimplemented in March 2009… however, most colleges, and probably Rice, want to still see all the SAT scores.

^^ ah… when i applied it wasnt there. thhey had discontinued it. now they re implement it

i always felt scorechoice isnt a good idea. i think colleges understand that you can have a bad testing day etc. i just think that if u send em all in it shows if you take 15 SAT II’s or wtvr or repeatedly redo them, becuase in college you dont get that many chances

there is probably another side to this that hasnt hit me yet, so feel free to correct me. im curious

Before I started applying to colleges, I was for Score Choice, but now I think the old way in which they see all your scores is better… it didn’t really matter if you do bad on one section because most of the very selective colleges “Super Scored” anyway (took the best score from each section across multiple sittings).

yeah… im not such a fan of that either.

that means u can take the SAT 3 times and only prep for one section… :S

Idk about the score choice myself. I mean ya everyone has good and bad test days. However, I have a couple of friends who literally did not even bother to take certain SAT sections on certain tests. Now, there is a difference between having a bad day and being flat out lazy. College admission officers are are intelligent people and understand that with intensive prep one can get SAT subsections up to a 750+ from a 600. However, if on one math test you get a 400 and then on the next test you get an 800 on math…something is up and colleges should have a right to see that.

exactly. thats why they take the best score… like i bombed my Math II the first time (missed a question and filled all the wrong ones from there down… like an idiot) and got like a 700, which was like 70th percentile

I retook it for an 800. all in all, i had 2 scores over 750 and that crap math score the first time.

i dont mind Rice seeing that because im sure it happens to all of us and we have a bad test. but taking Math II 6 times and doing well once and sending that… Rice should know that and what you did

You dont have 5 chances to pass a test here…
