chances?

out of state
weighted gpa of 3.9 but i did really good this year in school so i think it probably went up to a 4.0
sat- cr: 560 m: 570 w: 540
i plan to retake the sat in october
i am also taking the act in september

i plan on applying really early and i dont mind doing summer session.

If you plan to apply early, and can bring your test score up I think you have a good chance of admission. Base off what I recently read on Pennslyvania State University- University Park, if out of state students can pay the out of state tuition that may be a plus, assuming you do not need a significant amount of scholarships.

For an OOS, it’s definitely not a done deal! Apply early, and apply for summer session!

Bringing up the test schools would help a lot

anyone else?

Being OOS will not affect your chances.

anyone else want to chance me?

You look good. Apply to summer session just to be safe.

thank you  i heard summer session is a great experience so i really wouldnt mind it

how can your gpa go up to a 4.0 if you already had below that? a 4.0 is all A’s throughout hs

its weighted

anyone elses?!

Your GPA is pretty good. You have to work on your SAT though. If you are not applying to the Engineering school you should be okay with a slightly better SAT. If you are applying to the Engineering School then the acceptance rate for OOS students was around 20% in 2008

My son was accepted for summer this past year with a lower GPA 3.5 but higher SAT 1850 combined. If you can -try and raise your SAT and maintain your GPA. If you apply to the summer LEAP program it will improve your chances. By the way my son has loved the experience and I have yet to see anything on these boards about someone not thinking the summer LEAP experience was worth giving up their summer. Good Luck.

I got in OOS engineering with 4.0 weighted and 1100 and got some scholarships (4-5k) plus federal money (like another few k). …so chill.

It is just interesting how things vary…S had about a 3.8 unweighted gpa from an uber competitive OOS high school (that only accepted 20-25% of applicants) with 24 honors/AP courses and had an SAT in the 1400s CR and Math and got zilch (0) academic merit money as an accepted freshman to PSU-UP. In fact, the hs didn’t even include courses such as art, PE, music, etc. into gpa.

karp- it all depends on PSU funds. There are only a certain amount of $ PSU can give to IS and OOS students. So they work to give them out, starting with the best first and so-on. If he maintains an exellent academic record at PSU then I see no reason for him to see more money as he advances in his major.

cwryan…S is a rising senior…and he has picked up some scholarship $ over the years. I just wanted to point out that it is interesting how PSU awards scholarship funds to incoming freshmen, particularly OOS. It seems a little random sometimes though they probably have a system that looks at area of country the student is from, ethnicity, FAFSA, etc.

Other than the Schreyers $3,500, many of what limited scholarships PSU gives out are from the specific academic department or school.

do any of you know how competitive the art education major is by any chance?

lil_killer129 - was that for this fall?
