Hi, I was just wondering what my chances would be for University of Minnesota would be. I applied into the College of Liberal Arts for Political Science as my first choice and into the College of Education & Human Development for Sports Management as my alternate choice.

Stats:
Unweighted GPA: 3.3
Weighted GPA: 3.8
ACT: 31
SAT Subject Tests: Math II (650) and US History (690)
AP: US History (4), US Government (4), English Language (5), Human Geography (4), Macroeconomics (3). I will also take Calculus AB and AP Chemistry next year.
Class Rank: Top 20%

My main EC's are Varsity Basketball and Mathletes. I am also in a couple other honorary societies and a Peer Leader group. Thanks.

For CLA you have a really good shot. I am going there this year, and I got into the political science major with a lower ACT score (however my GPA was higher). Not to mention, I even got some merit aid. So I’d say you have a really good chance for CLA… just apply early! For the College of Education, you’re golden.

i applied earlier this month too. I know some other people that had 3.8’s or 3.9’s and high 20’s low 30’s ACT scores and they applied in October (or in whatever month the app is due) and got rejected. I would say you are in at CEHD. I would say you make a great case for CLA, but I have no idea what GPA they look at

I would say you have a pretty good shot at CLA. They really put a lot of focus on your GPA and ACT (I’m dead serious). Since you applied this early (way to be organized!), I think you have more of a likelihood of getting your application ACTUALLY looked at and not just skimmed like the other 10,000+ apps that come in during the fall/winter. Even though your GPA is a little low, your ACT score is great, so I think you’ll get in. I was in the same boat as you. I actually had a lower GPA (3.2 due to some personal problems I had), but I had a 33 on my ACT, and I’m in CLA this year. So if I can do it, lol so can you! Good Luck!

Oh I forgot…CEHD you’re definitely in. Don’t worry.

Whitesox I think you look solid (99%+) for both CLA and CEHD. I would still apply to a safety school (unless of course UMTC is your safety school). Good luck.
