I wouldn’t bother to re-test your SAT if I were you. As it stands, I’d say you were most likely in. Although your unweighted GPA is a tiny bit lower than average, your ACT score more than makes up for that. Plus, you seem to have a rather challenging courseload (and presumeably a higher weighted GPA as well) so that also should be in your favor.

thanks. My gpa will be over 3.5 after first tri of this year. Do you think i have any shot at merit aid?

Probably no shot at merit aid. I had much higher stats and got no merit aid. However, I had very high financial need so that could make it different. Generally though, you need to be in the top of the applicant pool and you are not :(.

fa-la’s right. Don’t bother retaking the SAT. I’d say pretty safely in, but I wouldn’t call MSU a safety.

Looks like you have a good chance of admission, just try to bring up your GPA. What is your weighted GPA?

you’ll definitely get in. don’t worry about it.

Contrary to sarah, I don’t think you’ll definitely get in. Do you have a good shot? Yes. However, I saw some people with a higher ACT and slightly lower GPA get rejected this year. Admissions are getting much more difficult.

Are you instate? It really doesn’t matter that you’ll be raising your GPA your senior year. If you apply early, they will only see your GPA up until the end of your junior year. But, I do believe you have an excellent chance of getting accepted. People on this forum were telling me the same thing they were telling you- that I definitely wouldn’t be a ‘shoe in’ and i had a 29 act, 3.94, and top 5% of my class. MSU really isn’t that difficult to get in to, but it is a great school none the less. Good luck!

A 3.94 GPA IS a shoe in. MSU focuses on GPA.

The applicant at question’s GPA lies in their middle 50% accepted GPA and his/her ACT score is above the middle 50% accepted ACT score. I would say that he/she has an excellent chance at gaining admission, especially considering the number of AP classes he/she has taken.

will it make a difference that I ended freshman year with a 2.9 cumulative and that my junior year cumulative was 3.87?

Yes, that will make a big difference. They really like to see upward trend of grades.

ps, his ACT is above the middle 50%, but his GPA no longer is, it’s slightly below. As I said before, MSU is a little bit finicky with admissions and yes the OP has an excellent shot.

“Freshman class profile (middle 50 percent of class): high school GPA, 3.44-3.85; SAT combined score, 1030-1260; ACT composite score, 23-27”

I do believe 3.48 is greater than 3.44.

I understand that. That was LAST year. The economy took a big hit this year and MSU saw a major jump in applications. Therefore, their middle 50% has increased. Now the middle GPA is just above a 3.5 to just below a 3.9.

Again, as I said before. I think he has an EXCELLENT chance. HOWEVER, I do know a few people with similar stats who got rejected this year. All I am saying is don’t make MSU your safety.

I have 3.51 GPA and 24 ACT with ap and honors etc… People told me i have a good shot of getting in, so i think you do

romanigypsyeyes did the people you are talking about that got rejected with higher ACTs and lower GPA’s apply really late? i’m just curious because i know of a few people with 21-22 ACTs and 3.3.-ish GPA’s that were accepted this past year (which i was pretty surprised about) but they applied super early.

Nope. One guy sent it in the same day I did (we went to the counselor together) in late September. He had a 32 ACT, 3.2 and got rejected. One with a 28 ACT, 3.5 GPA applied mid-October.

You should be good, but try to raise your gpa a bit
